Our skills workshop is carefully crafted to help you develop personally and professionally.
Working with professional coaches and inspirational speakers, you’ll undertake a range of exercises in core skills. A typical session will focus on effective leadership, team skills, and personal branding.
You’ll leave feeling totally renewed for the challenging workload ahead of you.
While you work in New York, take some time out for a 1-to-1 career session. Work closely with a qualified coach as you look back at your career to date, review your progress, and consider the future.
An early meeting is a great way of preparing yourself for the weeks ahead. You might want to set out any goals you’d like to meet in your time here. Or take a session half-way through your time in New York to balance your focus; first, take stock of your achievements so far, then consider adjustments you can make going forward.

When you land in New York, we’ll familiarize you with everything awaiting you in the city. From the work you’ll be doing to the trips and social events you’ll be embarking upon. You’ll also receive plenty of community dinner invites, so head along when you get the chance!
While you work, we’ll send you out an invite to a top professional networking session in New York. Build up your list of contacts as you meet and greet with top Architecture professionals. Hit it off with the right person and you might just be speaking to your next boss.
Take a walking tour of one of the most famous neighbourhoods in the world as you explore Brooklyn. Experience flea markets and deli markets as you immerse yourself in a cultural melting pot, then pick out some local attractions. Visit the Henry Ward Beecher Monument to take in some history, then get a view from the Brooklyn Bridge!
With a forward-thinking reputation, the Lower East Side offers some of the best nightlife, dining and entertainment in all of Manhattan. The neighbourhood was formerly a bustling hub of European and Jewish immigrants; in fact, it was New York’s first racially integrated neighbourhood. Discover some local culture as you immerse yourself in this slice of American history.
New York and American jazz have a long relationship. From Miles Davis to Ella Fitzgerald, jazz icons have made their indelible mark on the city. If you’re looking for a snapshot of a typical New York Architecture internship, read on; here’s a glimpse at a 6-week program.
As you catch your first sight of that iconic New York skyline, you can’t quite believe it: you’ve finally made it to New York. The Big Apple awaits; to kick things off, join us in arrivals and let us take you straight to your accommodation for the coming weeks. You can spend your first day as you wish; unwind in your room or head right back out into the city.
Either way, you’ll join us on your second day for your comprehensive orientation. This is your chance to get up to speed with what your program will look like. Cap off your day by joining your Beyond Community at an authentic pizza joint; enjoy some good food and get to know each other!
Turn up nice and early on your first day of work and meet your colleagues. Get the lowdown on your workload, then get to work. Your co-workers will be an invaluable source of advice, support and inspiration in your time here.
But you’ll soon find yourself challenged by your busy workload. An early skills workshop is a good idea; here, you’ll work with coaches and speakers to boost your skills in preparation for the weeks ahead. You’ll emerge with the confidence to take on anything your internship can throw at you.
And soon enough, it’s time for your first day trip. Immerse yourself in the iconic borough of Brooklyn, sampling delicious food and drink as you spot cultural landmarks aplenty.
By week three, you feel that you’re really getting the hang of your Architecture internship. You’ve developed a mastery over your firm’s architecture software, including InDesign and Photoshop; and you’ve assisted colleagues as they liaise with clients, effectively juggling caseloads to keep things running smoothly. It’s a good time to head out with your manager and consider your progress.
It’s been a busy few weeks, and you’re looking to unwind. There’s no better opportunity than a community meet-up; so head out to one of New York’s many international restaurants to catch up with your friends. Or grab takeaways and soak up the sun in a nearby park!
You’ll likely have met a few fellow Architecture professionals throughout your internship already. We’ll help you boost your burgeoning network of contacts by sending out an invite to a top industry event. Head along and meet top leaders in your sector; who knows how it’ll pay off down the line?
Next up, it’s time for your second guided tour. Take a deep dive into Lower East Side as you discover a neighbourhood rich in history, culture and art.
Your time in New York is drawing to a close, and you’re looking to reflect on what you’ve gained. Take your 1-to-1 career coaching session to consider your achievements, failures, and future career. It’s a great way of capping off your time in the city.
Your final trip will take you into the heart of New York’s historic jazz scene. Experience the musical sensation that the city is known for as you take in some delightfully cultured live performances.
You’ve got one final event scheduled: your farewell dinner. Meet up with your friends for the last time; reminisce over your favorite memories in the city, then say goodbye. Before you’re due to fly out, spend your free time making the most out of the city. Explore the catacombs of St. Patrick’s Basilica underneath New York; or take a Prohibition bar tour, where you’ll experience some of New York’s oldest speakeasies.

Our housing partners in New York are carefully chosen to meet our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Architecture internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
