A stylish world capital, Barcelona is a city where you can soak up art and design everywhere. Colorful, bold and carefully planned, the city is a living tribute to artistic brilliance. Marvel at elegant cathedrals and quirky architectural feats; then head to the Picasso museum to take in an array of masterpieces. Housed within five adjoining medieval palaces, the museum itself is a testament to design.
And the city has countless beautiful and iconic spots in which to snap that perfect photo; from beaches to hidden urban gems. In Barcelona, you’ll work with top industry leaders as you gain new knowledge and skills.
You’ll find English spoken widely in Barcelona. A vibrant and dynamic city, you’ll meet new people from all over the world as you experience new cultures and stories. Learn some new perspectives and share your own as you live and work in Spain!
Our immersive skills workshop is carefully designed to prepare you for the challenges of your internship – and your future career.
Working closely with professional coaches and speakers, you’ll train your core competencies and skills. From leadership and teamwork to confidence in a professional setting. Boosting these transferable skills will help you thrive in any workplace; and you’ll leave this session ready to face everything your internship could throw at you.
Take some time out of your busy internship to reflect on your career. In this 1-to-1 session, you’ll work with a professional coach to consider your strengths and weaknesses; before looking to the future as you set out a roadmap to success.
Interns differ on when best in their internship to pencil in this meeting. Some opt for an early session in order to prepare themselves for their coming program. This is the chance to talk through your expectations and set out any goals. Others choose a meeting half-way through their internship for a balanced session; focus first on what you’ve learned so far, then set out any improvements to make in your final weeks.
Lastly, you might want to use your career session to cap off your internship. Consider what you’ve achieved in your time in Barcelona; then look forward to the future as you plan out your next steps.

A popular tourist destination, journey out of Barcelona to discover the ancient walled city of Girona. Uncover a city full of heritage and culture as you experience winding city streets and medieval architecture. You’ll also find one of the best-preserved Jewish Quarters in Europe here. Try some local food and drink at the city’s many stalls and markets before you leave!
Discover the secrets to making world-class paella with the aid of a master chef. Head to a nearby market and pick out some of the finest ingredients, including prawns and chorizo sausage. Then learn from the best as you experience a masterclass in paella making. Share what you’ve learned with your friends and family back home!
Take a deep dive into the heart of Barcelona as you discover precisely what makes the city tick. Take in the seven architectural feats of Gaudí – a UNESCO World Heritage site – including the unfinished La Sagrada Família. Then soak up the atmosphere as you hop from tapas bar to tapas bar, relaxing to some easy jazz as you eat.
We’ve put together this glimpse at a typical Design internship in Barcelona, based on a 6-week program.
After months of anticipation and excitement, you’ve finally touched down in Barcelona. An entire city of culture awaits; but first, meet us at the airport and allow us to take you to your new home for the coming weeks.
Spend the rest of your first day unwinding. Some prefer to kick back in their room or a nearby café; others get out there and start exploring the city. The choice is yours. On your second day, join us for your orientation around the city. This is the chance to get up to speed with everything that awaits you in Barcelona. That evening, you’ll head out to meet your new friends. Sample some delicious Spanish food as you get to know your Beyond Community.
On your first day of work, turn up promptly and meet your team. You’ll be a spending a lot of time here over the course of your internship, so make a good first impression. Your colleagues and manager want to help you succeed, so don’t be afraid to ask questions; this is a learning experience, after all.
As you start to grapple with your workload, you might want to take an early skills workshop. This is a good way of boosting your core competencies for the weeks ahead of you. And you’ll leave feeling reinvigorated and ready for anything!
Soon, it’s time for your first trip. Take an excursion out to the ancient city of Girona to discover some authentic Spanish culture. Food, history, and impressive city walls await.
By week three, you’re feeling increasingly confident in your abilities. You’re adept at working closely with clients to produce work to their briefs; and you’ve put together plenty of research documents for your colleagues, collating and commenting on new industry trends and styles. So head out to a tapas bar with your manager and chat about your progress so far.
By now, you might want to kick back at a community dinner. If your first dinner was authentically Spanish, you could branch out and try one of the city’s many international dishes; so catch up with your friends and see how their own internships are going. Then take an evening walk along the beachfront.
You’ll have met a fair few industry professionals by now, and may even have picked up some contacts of your own. To help you as you build your growing network, we’ll send out an invite to an industry event. Head along and meet some Design leaders; impress the right person and it might just pay off.
Your second tour is a look into how to cook world-class paella. Pick out the freshest ingredients alongside a master chef, then get to work; you’ll be sure to impress friends and family back home with your new skills!
As your internship draws to an end, you’ve decided to schedule your 1-to-1 career session to cap off your experience. With professional guidance, look back on your achievements. Not only have you gained world-class world experience; you’ve also made life-long friends while completely immersing yourself in another country. And all in just six weeks! Finish your session by setting out your next steps after leaving Barcelona.
Get ready for an afternoon of food, culture, and architecture as you embark on your final trip. This is a dive into the heart of Barcelona, immersing yourself in everything the city has to offer. You’ll know it well by now, so take this last opportunity to uncover every nook and cranny the city has left.
Before it’s time to fly out, you’ve got one final event pencilled in: your farewell dinner. Meet up with your friends for one last time as you celebrate what you’ve gained and the friendships you’ve made. Swap contact details and arrange your first group meet-up – then say goodbye. And before you leave, you’ll want to make the most out of Barcelona. Browse some delicious fresh food at La Boqueria Market; or head to the Gothic Quarter of the Old City to take in some fascinating local history!

Our housing partners in Barcelona are carefully chosen to meet our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Art, Design & Photography internship begins. This is due to the demand for short term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
