Amsterdam is a relaxed city with a slower pace. Full of colour and beauty – from spring tulips to an array of vibrant buildings and waterways – you’ll constantly marvel as you uncover new sights. The Dutch can be formal and reserved; but English is spoken widely, and once you crack their tough exterior you’ll be sure to make fast friends..
Our diverse community of interns will ensure you soon feel at home. They’ve all been in your shoes, so they’ll have plenty of advice and support. Explore this amazing city together! Plus our Community Team can offer support, from professional tips on Dutch work culture, to simply pointing out the best place to grab a coffee in Amsterdam.
Whatever you need, they’ll be there for you.
We’ll give you a complete introduction to your program. Here you’ll familiarize yourself with Amsterdam and your internship; and you’ll discover what awaits you over the coming weeks and months. It’s a great opportunity to prepare yourself for this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. And keep an eye out for your biweekly dinner events!
You’ll receive invitations to the best industry networking opportunities in Amsterdam. Use these events to build up an amazing array of top international contacts!
Amsterdam’s famous canals are a key part of the city’s cultural heritage; there’s a reason that it has the nickname ‘Venice of the North’! Join our tour to traverse Amsterdam’s intricate criss-cross set of waterways, cruising along as you enjoy exquisite food and drink. Take in Amsterdam’s eye-catching architecture as you go.
The Netherlands doesn’t have much in the way of its own food culture. Instead, Amsterdam hosts an international array of amazing food and drink. You’ll zip from market to market, hopping cuisines as you go. From Japanese sushi to Mexican quesadillas to Sudanese goraasa be dama, you’ll try it all.
Journey back to the 18th century with a visit to the Zaanse Schans. Take in the vibrant historic windmills, or sample some fresh cookies from the bakery museum. And make sure you visit the cheese factory before you go! This idyllic experience is a refreshing departure from the city life of Amsterdam.
We’ve put together a snapshot of what it’s like to undertake a business internship in Amsterdam, based on a typical 6-week experience.
As you pass over the intricate web of canals, and the rainbow colours of Amsterdam’s buildings come into view, you’ll know that you’ve finally made it. We’ll meet you at the airport and whisk you to your new home.
Use day one to relax and settle in, or get out there and start exploring! We’ll give you a detailed orientation on day two, fully familiarizing you with Amsterdam and what to expect from your course. Then it’s time to introduce yourself to your fellow interns and start building long-lasting friendships!
The first order of business is meeting your manager and team. You’ll be excited to dive straight into your internship, so make a good first impression and then get started. After your first day is over, join us at a Community Team dinner; unwind with some good food and chat! Then, navigate your way home with a bike ride or on an iconic waterway.
As you get to grips with your internship, you’ll face all sorts of new and exciting challenges. To help you face these challenges you can undertake our workshop. You’ll build your confidence and skill-set under the tutelage of our qualified coaches and speakers. Apply your new skills to your internship, and beyond!
And before you know it, you’re ready for your first day trip. It’s time to properly get to grips with the Venice of the North; as you float down the waterways of Amsterdam, you’ll feel utterly serene. You’ll also spot plenty of iconic sights and striking architecture.
A couple of weeks in, you’re increasingly comfortable with the challenges of your business internship. You’ve already developed good experience generating financial reports and reporting back to management; and you’ve been regularly assisting in client interviews to determine business needs. Having progressed nicely, it’s a good time to head out with your manager and discuss your internship over a pastry or coffee.
English is widely spoken in the Netherlands, and so you’ll have lots of opportunity to start building up your network of contacts. We’ll be hard at work searching for the best professional networking opportunities for you; make sure you take advantage of these events. As a result, you’ll leave your internship with a great set of contacts and opportunities.
As you pass the midpoint of your internship, it’s time for you to embark upon your second guided tour. Journey through the markets of Amsterdam, sampling delicious food as you go. You’ll learn a bit of local history as you move from Chinatown through to Amsterdam’s Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Sadly, your time in Amsterdam is nearing its end. By this time, you’ve become completely familiar with all aspects of your internship. You’re adept at tracking worldwide stock market trends and reporting your findings back to management. And you’ve learned all the tricks of the trade when it comes to Amsterdam’s business culture. Now, it’s time to start thinking about what comes next.
If you haven’t already, the best way to plan out your next steps is to have your tailored 1-to-1 career coaching session. You’ll reflect on what you’ve learned about yourself, as well as your new perspective on your goals and future path.
Amsterdam is your second home by now. You’ll have visited every hotspot, from museums to coffee shops. So use your third trip to complete your cultural education of the Netherlands by visiting Zaanse Schans. From iconic windmills to museums and factories, this slice of historic Dutch life is a great window to the past. Grab a souvenir or tasty treat before you leave!
There’s one last event to attend before you leave Amsterdam: your farewell dinner. Congratulate your fellow interns and reminisce about your amazing time. Before you go, make sure you’ve ticked off everything on your list. Whether that’s the Anne Frank House or Van Gogh Museum, you’ll want to get the most out of this unforgettable city.
Then take one last look at that iconic Dutch landscape as you fly home.

We carefully select our housing partners in Amsterdam to meet our rigorous safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. This is a great way to build a community, especially for those traveling from overseas.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Business internship begins. This is due to the demand for short term accommodation and ever changing availability.
