Charities & NGOs Intern, Barcelona Immersive Program
Making sure to factor in your preferences and career goals, we’ll build the internship that’s right for you.
With start dates every month, and lasting anywhere between one and six months in length, you can choose an internship program to suit your career needs.
In Barcelona, anything goes. A bold and brash city, you’ll find charitable endeavors aplenty here. There’s a very public ethos running throughout Barcelona, and there’s a plan or initiative for just about everything.
Take the care sector: there’s a plan in place to democratize care work, recognizing that much of the burden of unpaid care falls onto women. Or climate change: the Open Streets campaign is working to reduce the number of the cars in the city to reduce pollution and noise across Barcelona. They even block the roads of a couple of streets every weekend to demonstrate their proposals in practice! So whatever area you choose to specialize in, you’ll find the right firm in Barcelona.
English is spoken widely here, which makes building new relationships easy. It’s a free-wheeling city of brand-new perspectives, backgrounds and cultures; get out there and learn something new!
Prepare for the challenges of the future with our immersive skills workshop.
Use this session to build up your key transferable skills, ready to apply your new knowledge to your internship. You’ll work with coaches and speakers as you undertake exercises in communication, team skills, and building a personal brand.
You’ll leave this workshop feeling reinvigorated and ready for anything!
Take some time out of your busy internship for an in-depth, 1-to-1 career session with a qualified coach. It’s an opportunity to consider your strengths and weaknesses, as well as identity any areas of improvement going forward.
Depending on what you want to get out of your session, you can pencil it in at a time that works for you. Some interns opt for an early meeting to set out their expectations for the coming weeks; this is also a chance to consider whether there’s any goals you’d like to meet while in Barcelona. Alternatively, you might wait until half-way through your internship for a more balanced session; take stock of what you’ve achieved, then consider any improvements you can make for the rest of your time in the city.
Or if you’d prefer, you can use your session to cap off your program. It’s a great way of looking back at your time in the city; then turn your eye to the future, setting out your roadmap to your dream job.
Throughout your program, you’ll also have access to personalized career advice and interview support. From CV and resume support to getting your LinkedIn profile up to scratch, we’ll be there.
Boost your employability and skills through our online range of employability tools and resources.
Examples of the support we provide include:
● A personal development plan toolkit
● Online interview skills seminars
● Sessions on communication or building your brand
● And many more useful resources you can access at any time

– Support the delivery and development of campaigns and projects

– Contribute to review sessions to improve future campaigns and events
– Identify and follow up on relevant news and social media trends

Barcelona is a city of contrasts. On the surface, it’s a sunny and vibrant city full of music, food and culture. But look a little deeper and you’ll find plenty of history and tradition here. There’s over 2,000 years of architectural delights to uncover, from ancient city fortifications to towering Gothic spires.
Plus, the work of Antoni Gaudí is present all over Barcelona, including the world-famous La Sagrada Família; his seven buildings are collected together as a UNESCO World Heritage site! And there are plenty of walking tours to truly immerse yourself in a city whose origins stretch back to the Roman era.
By your side throughout your internship will be your Beyond Community. Their support and friendship will be vital as you explore this fantastic and varied city.
Before your internship begins, you’ll join us on your detailed welcome orientation. We’ll get you familiar with everything that awaits you in Barcelona. You’ll also receive invitations to bi-weekly community dinners. They’re a great way to unwind after a busy week at work!

Head along to meet with all the movers and shakers in the Charities and NGOs sector; hit it off with the right person and you might well be speaking to your next boss.
Head out of Barcelona to discover a fascinating city of history and culture. Popular with tourists, Girona offers the chance to immerse yourself in thousands of years of history. Sample a selection of fantastic museums, then take in the ancient Roman fortifications that still surround the city. Finish off your tour by discovering Girona’s Jewish Quarters – some of the best-preserved in Europe.
One of the signature dishes of Spain, you’ll have the chance to learn all the tips and tricks to making delicious paella. Head to a local market to pick out the finest ingredients, including fresh prawns and spicy chorizo sausage. Then get to work alongside a master chef, learning everything you need to know about the art of paella making. You’ll be able to impress friends and family back home with your new skills!
Take a deep dive into the heart of Barcelona with this architecture and tapas tour. With a distinctively brash and colorful style, discover the history of Barcelona through its architecture; ranging from Roman ruins through to the Modernist works of Gaudí. Then embark on a cultural experience like no other as you snack on every tapas platter on offer.
You’ll be curious about what exactly your program might look like, so here’s a look at a typical 6-week Charities & NGOs internship.
As your airplane’s wheels touch down on the runway, you can’t quite believe you’ve finally made it: welcome to Barcelona. A sun-soaked city of heritage and culture awaits; but before you dive in, meet us in arrivals and allow us to whisk you to your new home for the coming weeks.
Spend your first day getting settled. You might lie low in your room or a nearby tapas bar; or you could head straight back out the door to start exploring. Either way, you’ll meet us on day two for your Barcelona orientation. This is the chance to get up to speed with your coming internship. In the evening, get to know your brand-new Beyond Community. Feast on some delicious Spanish food as you settle into Barcelona life!
On your first day of work, turn up promptly and introduce yourself to your new co-workers. Make sure to make a good first impression! After a short introductory period, immerse yourself in your workload and get to work. Make sure to ask for help whenever you need it; your internship is a learning experience, after all.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip. Head out to the nearby city of Girona to discover a slice of authentic Spanish culture and history. Make sure you take in the impressive city walls before you go!
By week three, you’ll be feeling increasingly confident in your abilities. You’re adept at handling clients and funders, determining their needs and communicating your charity’s goals. And you’ve developed a mastery of social media, using advanced techniques to raise brand awareness online. So it’s a good time to take some time out and chat with your manager about your progress so far.
It’s been a busy few weeks, and you’re keen to kick back and relax. You’ve organized to meet up with your friends at a community dinner at a local restaurant; as your first meal was authentically Spanish, why not branch out and try one of Barcelona’s many international restaurants? Enjoy your evening as you swap stories with your Beyond Community.
By this point, you’ll have come across plenty of charity professionals in your day-to-day work. And you might have picked up a few contacts already. To help you build up your network, we’ll send out an invite to a top industry event. Impress the right person and it might just pay off.
For your second tour, it’s time to learn how to make delicious paella. Under the tutelage of a master chef, discover all the tips and tricks to preparing this authentic Spanish dish; once you’ve learned this skill, you’ll never forget it!
As your internship approaches its end, you’re in a reflective mood. Think back on what you’ve gained: not only world-class work experience, but life-long friends and a true cultural immersion. It’s certainly been worth it! If you haven’t already, book in your 1-to-1 career session to review your achievements and set out your next steps.
Your final trip will take you on an architectural tour of Barcelona. See all the sights, including some world-famous creations; then finish off your day by sampling a range of delicious tapas!
Before your program draws to a close, it’s time for your final scheduled event: your farewell dinner. Put on your best clothes and meet up with your Beyond Community for one final time. Share your favorite memories of your time here, arrange your first group meet-up, and then say goodbye. In your last few days, you’ll want to spend all your free time making the most of Barcelona. Take in the world-famous mosaics and architecture of Park Güell; or take a mile-long stroll down La Rambla and enjoy the sights!
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.
