You’ll be curious about what exactly your program might look like, so here’s a look at a typical 6-week Charities & NGOs internship in Sydney.
After months of planning and preparation, you’ve made it to Sydney. As your plane skims down over the shimmering blue water, you can’t wait to discover what lies ahead of you. First, though, meet us at the airport and allow us to take you to your home for the coming weeks. You can spend the rest of your first day as you wish; catch some shut-eye after a long flight or head out into the heart of the city to begin exploring!
Join us on day two for your orientation. We’ll run you through everything that awaits you in Sydney, including your firm. Afterwards, attend the first of many community dinners as you say hello to Australia. Meet your Beyond Community and start building friendships that will last you a lifetime.
Dive into your work on your first day. Draw on the insight and support of your colleagues; they’ll have plenty of advice and knowledge for you as you continue to learn and grow. But you might want to prepare for the weeks ahead of you with a skills workshop; pick up a few tips from professional coaches as you boost your development.
Next up, you’ll be journeying out to the Blue Mountains for your first trip. This breath-taking slice of the natural world has plenty to see and do; get as much out of it as you can.
By week three, you’re feeling increasingly comfortable in your role. Whether it’s getting out onto the street and soliciting potential donations; or planning and executing events and campaigns. Charity is a multi-varied sector, and the skills you learn here will be vital. Take some time out with your manager and chat about what you’ve gained so far.
You’ve been swept off your feet these last couple of weeks. Everybody needs a bit of down-time to recharge their batteries, so meet up with your friends at a community dinner. Pick out one of Sydney’s finest international restaurants and enjoy an evening together. Take the ferry back home!
You’ll be picking up plenty of contacts as you work. Pick up some more with your industry networking session. The right relationship can pay dividends down the line; see what awaits you!
It’s already time for your second trip; a world-class night on the town with a trip to the Sydney Opera House. Enjoy dinner and a fantastic show; there’s no other experience like it.
You’re close to the end of your internship now, and Sydney truly feels like home. You’ll be sad to leave it, but all good things must come to an end. Book in your 1-to-1 career session as you look back on your time in the city; what have you learned and what could have gone better?
Wrap up your trio of trips with an immersion in the streets of Sydney. You’ll have tried some delicious food by now, but you won’t have experienced anything like this! Enjoy street stalls and market vendors as you snack your way through everything Sydney has to offer.
But now, it’s time for your final event in Sydney: your goodbye dinner. This is your chance to say goodbye to your friends, and to Sydney itself. You’ll laugh and cry as you remember the good times you’ve had. Enjoy one last evening together, then bid each other farewell.
And in your final few days before you’re due to fly out, you’ll want to make the most of Sydney. Enjoy the lush Lex and Ruby Graham Gardens; or head to the cavernous Gould’s Book Arcade, Australia’s largest second-hand bookstore!

You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
