Visit the iconic Zaanse Schans for a glimpse of a simpler time. This well-preserved historical neighborhood is full of windmills, barns, and museums to explore. Pop into a dairy factory for a bite of delicious Dutch cheese, or else sample cookies and baked goods at a nearby bakery. Make sure you pick up a souvenir before you go!
Here’s a look at what awaits you on your Consulting internship, based on a typical 6-week program.
You can’t believe you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. All those months of preparation and excitement have built to this; step off the plane and savor it. Then meet us in arrivals and allow us to take you to your new home.
Your first day is entirely yours, so choose the best way to unwind. Some interns lay low in their accommodation or a nearby café to acclimatize; others head out and start exploring. Either way, you’ll join us on day two for your comprehensive orientation. We’ll get you up to speed with everything that awaits you on your program; afterwards, head out to meet your community. Get to know your brand-new friends over some delicious Dutch food. You’ll soon be incredibly close!
The Dutch are very careful about time, so turn up promptly to the office and meet your team. Make a good first impression, because you’ll be spending a lot of time here over the coming weeks. After a busy first day, you might like to kick back at a community dinner. This time, why not grab takeaways and head to one of Amsterdam’s many green spaces? To get home, cycle or take a water taxi!
The consulting industry will pose plenty of new challenges throughout your internship. To prepare yourself, it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Learn everything you need from professional coaches and speakers; then go out and apply yourself anew.
Before you know it, it’s already time for your first trip. Take a relaxing canal cruise as you discover everything that Amsterdam has to offer. It’s the best way of soaking up the atmosphere of this incredible city.
You’ll soon find yourself growing more and more comfortable in your role. From offering assistance as you keep across your colleagues’ varied caseloads; to interviewing clients as you take their feedback on your firm’s work. Take some time out to meet with your manager and discuss your progress.
Consulting is a varied industry, and you’ll be constantly meeting new people throughout your internship. So by now you’ve probably picked up a few contacts of your own. To help, we’ll send out an invite to a top networking session; head along and introduce yourself to the top minds in your sector. Make a good impression; who knows how it will benefit you later in your career?
Next up, it’s your second trip. Experience Amsterdam anew as you take this market tour. Wind through the city’s streets as you sample everything on offer; and learn a bit of local history as you go.
As your internship nears its end, you’ve been thinking about what you’ve gained. From hands-on practical experience to a complete cultural immersion, you’ve had an amazing experience. If you haven’t already, it’s a good time to seek out your 1-to-1 career session with a professional coach. Here you can consider your achievements and plan out your next steps.
You’ll conclude your series of trips and tours with a visit to Zaanse Schans. Discover this preserved 18th-century village as you get to grips with the heritage of the Netherlands. Experience authentic historical architecture and try some delicious baked goods!
All good things must come to an end and before you know it, you’ve found yourself heading out to your farewell dinner. Pledge to keep in touch with your friends as you organize your first group meet-up; then say goodbye.
But before you’re due to leave Amsterdam, make sure you’ve experienced as much of the city as possible. Browse some used books in the historic Oudemanhuispoort passage; or visit the Totalitarian Art Gallery and learn something new about the history of fascism!

You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
