A city with deep historic roots, there’s so much to uncover in Berlin. It might be the crumbled remnants of the Berlin Wall; or the Museum Island, the largest museum ensemble in the world – and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Where Berlin is gritty and urban, Potsdam is romantic and picturesque. A stone’s throw away from Berlin, you’ll find UNESCO-listed royal parks and palaces here. Plus, the Holländerviertel (Dutch Quarter) sports the largest number of Dutch-style red brick houses outside the Netherlands. Today, they’re used to house boutique stalls, craft shops, and cafés. Step into a fairy tale and enjoy!
A cultural hotspot famous the world over for its striking contemporary art scene, Berlin is the perfect choice for an art tour. Wind your way through the heart of the city, taking in museums and art galleries; as well as the graffiti that covers Berlin’s urban sprawl. And while you’re getting to grips with art and culture, enjoy some delicious German food! Hop from stall to stall, trying bratwurst, schnitzel, and more.
Bathe yourself in lights as you experience the Clärchens Ballhaus, a glittering old-style ballroom that harkens back to Berlin’s golden era. Find somebody to dance with or go solo as you enjoy a fantastic selection of live music, including swing and jazz. Or grab a cocktail or two as you immerse yourself in the atmosphere. There’s nowhere quite like it, and a trip to Berlin isn’t complete without it.
If you’re keen to know what it’s like to intern in Berlin, look no further; here’s a snapshot of a typical 6-week Consulting program.
After months of planning and preparation, you’ve finally made it: welcome to Berlin. You can’t wait to discover what lies ahead of you; but the first order of business is to meet us at the airport so we can take you to your new home. From there, you can spend the rest of your first day as you wish; sleep off the jet lag and settle in, or hop on the subway and journey into the heart of Berlin.
Whatever you choose, you’ll kick off your internship properly with your orientation. This is your chance to get up to speed with everything awaiting you in the city; you can also ask any questions you might have while you’re here. That evening, it’s time for the first of many community dinners as your new friends welcome you to Berlin. Snack on something authentically German as you get to know your Beyond Community.
Your first day of work will see you meet your colleagues. Get a sense of the work you’ll be doing, then get stuck in. You’ll be working alongside experienced professionals, so take advantage of it; draw on their knowledge and guidance to learn something new.
If you haven’t worked in consulting before, you might find yourself overwhelmed by your tasks and responsibilities. In that case, it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Working with coaches and speakers, you’ll develop strategies and skills to adapt to your workload. It’s a great way of preparing for the weeks ahead.
Next up, it’s time for your first day trip. Welcome to Potsdam, a city home to grand palaces and immaculately presented gardens. Learn something new as you get to grips with some German history.
By your third week in Berlin, you’re really feeling at home in your firm. From juggling clients and assisting colleagues to producing detailed briefs and attending training seminars, the skills you’ve gained here will take you far. So why not go for a coffee with your manager and discuss your progress?
After a busy few weeks, you’re looking for an opportunity to kick back and relax. Accept an invite to a community dinner and meet up with your friends. See how their internships are going and share stories about your own; try one of Berlin’s many international cuisines and enjoy!
By now, you’ll have already made links with a few of your fellow consulting professionals; develop your network even further by heading along to a top industry session. Meet and greet with leaders in your sector; impress the right person and it might just pay off!
For your second trip, get ready for a winding cultural tour through the heart of Berlin. Enjoy art old and new, snacking on a delicious range of food as you go.
Your internship is drawing to a close, so it’s time to take your 1-to-1 career session. Look back on the experiences you’ve had and the skills you’ve gained; then plan out your next steps in Consulting, all with the guidance of a professional coach.
Your final trip will take you to the Clärchens Ballhaus. Step back in time as you go out dancing in this glamorous ball-house; enjoy cocktails and live music as you experience the Golden Twenties in all their glory!
But now, you’ve got one last event to attend: your farewell dinner. Meet up with your friends and reminisce over your fantastic internships. Then bid each other, and Berlin, goodbye. In your remaining free time before you’re due to fly out, you’ll want to make as much of the city as you can. Head to the Design Panoptikum for a surreal collection of quirky designs; or try the Prinzessinnengarten, a former bombed-out area turned into a community café!
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.
