We’ve put together a snapshot of a typical New York consulting internship, based on a 6-week program.
As you step off the plane, you can’t quite believe that you’re about to stride among the world-famous skyscrapers of New York. An entire city of excitement awaits you; but first, join us in arrivals and allow us to take you to your accommodation for the coming weeks.
Spend the rest of your first day in a way that suits you. For some that’ll be laying low in your room or a nearby café; for others it’s hopping in a yellow cab and making your way into the heart of the city. Whatever you choose, you’ll meet us on your second day for your orientation. We’ll get you up to speed with everything awaiting you on your program, including New York itself. That evening, introduce yourself to your new friends over one of New York’s many delicious cuisines.
On your first day of work, get to know your manager and colleagues. You’ll be spending a lot of time here over the coming weeks, so make a good first impression. Then dive into your workload! Your co-workers’ expertise and insight will be an invaluable tool for your development; ask questions and take inspiration from your colleagues.
Through the course of your internship, you’ll often find yourself challenged by new tasks and experiences. Prepare to face the future with an early skills workshop; work with coaches and speakers as you undertake exercises in key areas.
Next up, it’s time for your first day trip. Experience a world-famous borough as you get to know Brooklyn; take in some iconic sights and soak up the atmosphere as you chat with the friendly locals.
It’s week three, and you’re really getting into the groove of your fast-paced consulting internship. You’ve absorbed countless briefing documents on every client that your consultancy firm handles, so you’ve got a firm grasp on your workload; and you’ve been assisting senior staff during interviews and chats with both existing and prospective clients. You’ve even taken the lead a few times yourself. So it’s a good time to take some time out with your manager and discuss your progress.
After a busy few weeks, why not kick back at a community dinner? Try an international restaurant as you meet up with your friends; or grab takeaways and head out to Central Park. Catch up with your community and see how their internships are getting on, then take the subway home.
You’ll likely have met a lot of fellow consulting professionals throughout your internship. We’ll help you develop your network of contacts even further with an invite to a top industry event. Head along and get to know your sector; impress the right person and it might just pay off!
It’s already time for your second tour. Take a visit to the traditionally working-class and immigrant neighbourhood of the Lower East Side for a unique cultural experience. Take in some art and poetry while you’re here; there’s always something new to discover.
Your program is nearing its end, and you’re looking to reflect on what you’ve gained here. Schedule your 1-to-1 career session as you review your progress alongside a professional coach. Then consider your next steps after leaving New York.
For your final trip, you’re about to experience the iconic jazz scene of New York. Enjoy the live music and delicious drinks on offer as you learn a little local history and culture.
All good things must come to an end, and so it’s time for your farewell dinner. Meet up with your friends for one last time; reminisce about your favorite memories of your time in the city, arrange your first group meeting, then say goodbye. And before you’re due to fly out, you’ll want to spend the rest of your free time making the most of the city. Explore the history of organized crime at the Museum of the American Gangster; or check out the ‘Joker Stairs’ in the Bronx!
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.
