Otherwise, you could take your meeting mid-way through your internship for a session of two halves; focus initially on your progress so far, then set out any changes you’d like to make in your remaining time.
And lastly, you might find that a session in the closing days of your internship is a great way of taking stock of your achievements and successes; as well as your failures. This is also a good time to start thinking about your next steps in engineering.

Take a trip back in time with an excursion to Zaanse Schans. This well-preserved village offers a glimpse of traditional Dutch life; experience windmills, traditional houses, fascinating museums, and freshly baked food! Make sure to try some authentic Dutch cheese, then finish off your day with some tasty cookies. Then pick up a souvenir or two for friends and family back home.
You’ll be eager to know just what an engineering internship is like. So here’s a snapshot of a typical 6-week program.
As you touch down at Schiphol Airport, you can’t quite believe you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. A brand-new culture awaits you; but first, meet us in arrivals. We’ll whisk you to your new home for the next few weeks, so you can start your adventure!

You might find yourself challenged by the busy and varied workload facing you. So to help you prepare for your internship, it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Work with coaches and speakers to train your core skills and competencies.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip. Take a relaxing cruise along the criss-crossing canals of Amsterdam. Take in everything the city has to offer – from architectural delights to impressive flower arrangements.
You’ve been gaining more and more confidence as each day passes. By now you’re comfortable performing maintenance on electrical systems without supervision; and you’re a pro at producing detailed root cause analysis reports. As week three begins, take some time out with your manager to discuss your progress so far.
Your work life has been busy over the past few weeks, so you might want to unwind at a community dinner. Meet up with your friends and chat about your experiences over a delicious bite to eat; to get home, cycle or take a water taxi.
You’ll likely have met plenty of engineering professionals throughout your internship, and you’ll have picked up a few contacts of your own. To aid you as you develop your own network, we’ll send out an invite to a top engineering event. Head along and meet top leaders in your sector; who knows how it’ll pay off down the line?
For your second trip, get ready to go market hopping as you take a cultural deep-dive like no other. Sample delicious food and drink, then learn some local history! Make sure you take in the Old Town before you go.
As your internship nears its end, you’ve been thinking back on what you’ve gained here. It’s not just hands-on work experience; you’ve also completely immersed yourself in Amsterdam, and made life-long friends to boot. Not bad for six weeks! Before it’s time to leave, make sure you arrange your 1-to-1 career session. Reflect on what you’ve achieved, then set out a roadmap to plan out your next steps.
Complete your cultural education with a trip to Zaanse Schans. You’ve experienced Amsterdam in its entirety; now it’s time to head out of the city and take in some traditional Dutch heritage. Try some delicious fresh goods, marvel at centuries-old buildings, then grab some souvenirs to take home.
Your last scheduled event is your goodbye dinner. It’s time to say farewell to your friends as you celebrate your achievements together. It’ll be an emotional evening, but pledge to stay in touch and then say goodbye. Before you’re due to fly out of the city, make sure you’ve got as much out of Amsterdam as you can. Whether that’s experiencing the Anne Frank Museum or sipping a cocktail in the Skybar of A’dam Toren. You won’t regret it!
