In fact, large swathes of Barcelona were redesigned in preparation for the 1992 Olympics, and that urban renewal has continued ever since. It also has major links to other cities around Europe and the Mediterranean basin, including the developing North African market.
English is spoken widely in Barcelona, which makes forging new connections a breeze. Here, you’ll find a vibrant city packed with a variety of perspectives and cultures; start conversations and learn something new!
Our skills workshop is a great way to prepare yourself for the challenges of your engineering internship.
Working with professional coaches and speakers, you’ll be taken through an array of exercises on several key skills; including effective leadership, adaptability, and confidence in a professional setting.
You’ll leave feeling reinvigorated and ready for the challenges that await you.
Take a step back from your busy internship to look back on your progress and achievements. With the aid of a professional coach, consider your strengths, weaknesses, and future plans.
You can pencil in your appointment depending on what you want to get out of your session. Some see an opportunity to set out any goals they’d like to meet while in Barcelona; so choose an early appointment to maximize its usefulness. Or you might like to take stock of your progress before making adjustments for the rest of your internship. In that case, wait until half-way through your time in Barcelona for a session of two halves.
Lastly, you might choose to cap off your internship by reviewing your achievements and planning for the future.

There’s also a range of fantastic architecture to discover; Barcelona is a world of towering Gothic cathedrals and impressive Modernist creations. Across the city, you can find the seven collected works of Antoni Gaudí; together, they make up a UNESCO World Heritage site!

After you touch down in Barcelona, join us for a detailed welcome orientation. We’ll use this time to get you familiar with everything that awaits you in the city. Use your international experience to build up your network of contacts and associates. We’ll assist you by sending out an invite to an industry session; head along and chat with top engineering leaders. Hit it off with the right person and you might just be speaking to your next boss.
Discover Girona, an ancient city of culture and heritage, as you take a trip out of Barcelona. A popular tourist spot, there’s plenty to see and do here. Try the city’s museums and art galleries for a glimpse at thousands of years of history; then head out to see the impressive city fortifications, which date back to the Roman era. Finish up with a tour of Girona’s ancient Jewish Quarters – they’re some of the best preserved in Europe.
Learn how to prepare the signature dish of Spain with this immersive cooking experience! The perfect bowl of paella requires the freshest ingredients; so head out to a nearby market and grab the best chicken, prawns and chorizo sausages you can find. Then get to work, learning all the tips and tricks from a master chef. You’ll bring your new skill home with you and impress friends and family!
Dive into the heart of Barcelona as you explore its best features: architecture and tapas! Immerse yourself in a distinctly Spanish city of Gothic spires and ancient cathedrals. Then sample every tapas bar in the city, snacking on a delicious range of authentic Spanish food as you get to know everything Barcelona has to offer!
If you’re eager to get a glimpse at a typical engineering internship, we’ve put together a snapshot based on a 6-week program.
As your wheels meet the runway, you can’t quite believe you’ve made it: welcome to Barcelona. A fun-filled city of food, sea and sun awaits; but first, allow us to take you straight from the airport to your new accommodation.
Your first day is yours to play with. You can spend your down time relaxing in your room, or head straight out and explore the city. Either way, you’ll join us on day two for your orientation. We’ll soon get you up to speed with everything awaiting you in the city. Later that evening, you’ll meet your Beyond Community for the first time. Enjoy chatting with your new friends, all over some delicious Spanish food.
On your first day of work, introduce yourself to your new colleagues. Make a good impression, then dive into your workload! Remember, this is a learning experience, so absorb as much professional insight as you can from your co-workers.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip. Journey out to the nearby city of Girona to immerse yourself in some fantastic Spanish culture and history. Explore museums, art galleries, and ancient walls!
It’s week three, and you’ve soon found yourself getting on top of things. You’re a dab hand at producing precise calculations and planning documents, double-checking to ensure that they’re free of errors; and you’re developing your skills in root cause analysis, collecting your work into detailed briefing documents for colleagues. So take a step back to chat with your manager about your progress.
After a busy few weeks, you’re looking to kick back and relax. There’s no better way than meeting up with your friends at a nearby restaurant. As your first meal was authentically Spanish, why not try one of the city’s many international foods? Catch up with your Community as you chat into the night; then take a walk home along the beach.
You’ll likely have met a lot of fellow engineers in your role; and you might even have made a contact or two already. So head along to an industry session to get to know some top leaders in your industry. Make the right connection and job or interview offers may be around the corner.
Next up, it’s time to make some delicious paella! Work with a master chef as you craft the finest ingredients into a delicious Spanish dish. It’s a skill you’ll never forget!
Your internship is nearing its end, so you’ve taken some time out to discuss your progress with a professional coach. Consider what you’ve achieved and what you could have improved; then turn your eye to the future, setting out a roadmap to your dream job.
Your final trip will take you on a deep dive into the heart of Barcelona. Take in the world-famous architecture of Antoni Gaudí as you explore the city; then try as much tapas as you can get your hands on!
All good things must come to an end, and so you’ve got one last event to attend: your farewell meal. Reminisce with your friends about six weeks well spent, then say goodbye. And before you’re due to fly out, make sure you experience as much of the city as possible. Enter the Park Güell to take in some architectural delights; or journey up to the Tibidabo mountain to discover a fairground and a majestic temple!

All our housing partners in Barcelona meet our safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. But you’ll be living with fellow Beyond interns, as well as a mixture of students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community and make friends, especially if you’re traveling from further abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom and shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding as standard, as well as Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with good access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, your commute time will be no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Engineering internship begins. This is due to the demand for short term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
