You’ve finally made it to New York. Step into a city of skyscrapers, culture and history as you disembark from the plane; join us in arrivals and let us take you to your accommodation for the coming weeks.
Spend the rest of your first day unwinding. You might want to kick back in your room or a nearby café; or you could head straight out there and explore your new city. The choice is yours; either way, you’ll meet us on your second day for your orientation. Here you’ll prepare for your internship, as well as life in New York. That evening, you’ll meet your new Beyond Community for the first time. Many interns make friends for life on our programs, and this is where it starts.
On your first day of work, introduce yourself to your manager and colleagues. Your co-workers will be an ongoing source of inspiration and knowledge; they’re here to see you succeed, so learn as much as you can from them.
You’ll soon find yourself challenged as your engineering internship wears on. So it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop; work with professional coaches to boost your skills and prepare yourself for the work ahead of you.
Soon enough, it’s already time for your first day trip. Immerse yourself in the world-famous borough of Brooklyn; discover art, music and iconic sights as you explore, then finish off your day with ice creams at Coney Island!
By week three, you feel that you’ve really got to grips with your engineering internship. Through hands-on experience, you’ve expanded your diagnosis and repair skills; and you’ve boosted your theoretical knowledge by keeping on top of the latest reports and briefings. Take some time out with your manager to discuss what you’ve gained so far.
It’s been an intense few weeks, and you’re looking for some down time. A community dinner is the perfect way of unwinding after a long day at work, so meet up with your friends and see how they’re getting on. Try one of New York’s many international dishes, or grab takeaways and luxuriate in a green space.
A few weeks in, you’ll already be familiar with a few of your fellow engineering professionals. We’ll help you build your network of contacts, by sending out an invite to a top industry networking event. Get to know your sector; hit it off with the right person and good things may come of it!
It’s time for your second tour. The Lower East Side is a hodgepodge of influences and cultures drawn from all over the world; discover it all as you learn some local working-class history!
You’ve decided to take a late 1-to-1 career appointment to look back on what you’ve achieved in New York. Reflect upon your successes and what you could have done differently; then consider your next steps to your dream job.
Your final trip is a musical experience like no other. It’s time to take in the world-famous jazz scene of New York. Discover quintessential tunes played by exciting up-and-comers; enjoy a cocktail or two as you do it.
Your final scheduled event is your goodbye dinner. Put on your best clothes and hit the town one last time; arrange the details of your first big group meet-up, then say farewell to your friends. In your last few days, you’ll want to spend your remaining free time dashing around the city to take in any remaining sights. Explore the catacombs of the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral; or head to the Museum of Natural History and check out a dinosaur or two!
