Weeks 1 & 2

After months of anticipation, you’ve finally made it to Tokyo. Soak up that unmistakable feel of a new city as you step off the plane; then meet us at the airport so we can take you straight to your new home.

Use your first day to get comfortable. Scope out the surrounding area or kick back in your accommodation; it’s up to you. On day two, we’ll take you on a comprehensive orientation. You’ll quickly become familiar with everything that awaits you. Afterwards, meet your brand-new Beyond Community. Many interns report that they make friends for life on our programs, and this is just the beginning.

On your first day of work, get stuck in to impress your new colleagues. Afterwards, you might want to unwind at a community dinner; if your first dinner was traditionally Japanese, why not branch out and try something international?

As you get to grips with your internship, you’ll often find yourself challenged by new tasks and new ways of doing things. Why not prepare yourself for the weeks ahead with a skills workshop? Working with coaches and speakers, get your skill-set up to scratch, then go out and apply yourself!

And before you know it, it’s time for your first trip. Head to Mount Fuji for a breath-taking experience of natural beauty. It’s truly the icon of Japan, and with good reason.

tokyo-sushi

Weeks 3 & 4

Whether it’s mastery over root cause analysis or skill in navigating the competing requirements of multiple clients, you’re gaining confidence in your role. So head out with your manager to a local café or tea room and discuss your progress.

With its booming economy and deep ties to cities all over the world, you’ll likely have met some interesting businesspeople already. But to grow your list of contacts, we’ll send you invitations to industry networking events. Now is a great time to build on existing contacts and make some new ones. Attend an evening event to meet top leaders in engineering and swap your details. Make the right connection and it might just pay off down the line.

Next, it’s time for your second event. You’ll learn the secrets of traditional Japanese tea-making, while wearing the traditional kimono!

tokyo-workshop

Weeks 5 & 6

As your internship comes to a close, you’ve been thinking about what you’ve gained. From practical industry experience to new friends and contacts, and a cultural education too; you’re amazed you’ve fit it all into six weeks. Cap off your time in Tokyo with your 1-to-1 career session. Work with a professional coach to consider what you’ve learned, as well as your next steps.

Finish off your cultural education with a visit to Shinjuku. Try the mini-bars of Golden Gai as you explore the narrow and winding alleys of this totally unique area. Sample bar snacks and side dishes, draft beers and sake, as you hop from bar to bar. End your evening with some karaoke or dance the night away at one of Shinjuku’s nightclubs.

And before it’s time to go, you’ve got one final event scheduled: your farewell dinner. Congratulate your community – you’ve all made it through an incredible experience. Pledge to keep in touch, then say goodbye. In your remaining days, squeeze in as much as you can out of the city you now call home. Take in a traditional show at Kabuki-za Theater, or try an aquatic tour on the swimming tour bus, Sky Duck! Whatever you do, you won’t regret making the most of it.

“What I loved about Beyond Academy and why I choose them is because they are more flexible and more individually tailored to what each person is looking for, rather than just a generalised experience. My group and the entire Beyond community has been really welcoming. I am so lucky to be able to have this experience with people that are similar, as in we are all looking to grow personally, grow professionally and also just enjoy every moment. Everyone here has left behind the familiar and has come to the unfamiliar which can be scary, but when you have a community as good as this, it’s not scary at all.”

“My experience so far here has been amazing, it’s just a shock how much I have been enjoying it. The interns are amazing here so we have been hanging out and getting to know each other and exploring Seoul. It’s really just been a full experience that I have been embracing every single day. I work in a team who creates content relating to K-pop. My favourite part of interning is getting to know my coworkers, being around a group of people that are just so kind and inviting, working alongside them every day has been the best experience. I had been hearing about Beyond Academy for quite some time and I read some really great reviews. I wanted to get the work and life balance, which Beyond offered. My favourite thing about Beyond are the connections I have made here and also the events that have been planned, it gets all of us out to embrace Korean culture.”

Jordan from the United States
Marketing Intern, Seoul Immersive Program

“I would recommend Beyond Academy because overall its such an incredible experience. Its not like studying abroad through school because you are really immersed in it, you are here living and working and it really gives you the opportunity to feel like you are making headway in your career. ”

Francesca from the United States Theatre Production Intern, London Immersive Program

“I have learnt an insane amount over the last two months. Having been at Uni for two years, I have learnt so much more in a short space of time. I love the fact that so much effort has gone into us having a such a good time. My overall experience so far has been incredible, the balance between working and having fun with friends, and the accommodation has just been great.”

Kim from South Africa

“I knew with Beyond I was in safe hands, the communication I got form day one was amazing. Thankfully I got put into an excellent internship in investment firm, and I am loving it so far, I love using the insights and experiences that I have learnt in my degree and putting that to use in the workplace.”
