Famous for its sense of ‘gezelligheid’ – cosiness or warmth – you’ll soon find yourself relaxed in Amsterdam. The laid-back atmosphere of the city is unmatched, and you’ll find so much to see and do here. For history buffs, the city itself is a living, breathing tribute to a prosperous and imperial past. Discover a web of canals laid down in the Dutch Golden Age, then head into nearby museums to immerse yourself among Dutch masterpieces and scientific innovation. But you’ll also find all the attractions of a modern city here, including an array of bars, restaurants, and cosy cafés. Indulge in both Dutch and international food and drink as you take in everything Amsterdam has to offer.
And as you explore the city, you’ll have the friendship and support of your Beyond Community. Attend trips, dinners, and social events as you build relationships that will last you for life.
Before you start your placement, we’ll take you through a comprehensive orientation around Amsterdam. We’ll familiarize you with everything awaiting you in the city; you’ll also get regular community dinner invitations, so head along!
Use your internship to meet as many of your fellow entrepreneurs as possible. We’ll help you build up your own network of professional contacts by sending an invite to a top industry event. Swap contact details and get to know everyone; you might just meet your next boss or business partner.
Embark on a relaxing canal cruise around Amsterdam as you soak up the atmosphere of this cosy city. Kick back and watch the world go by as you take in multi-colored gabled buildings and iconic sights. And as you cruise along, snack on a sumptuous selection of Dutch food and drink.
Immerse yourself in the heart of Amsterdam with a market tour. Get to know the city through its people, food, history and culture as you hop from stall to stall, trying everything. Sample some tasty Dutch stroopwafel and thin pancakes; then head to an authentic international stall to expand your culinary horizons. Why not Spanish tapas or Greek mousakka?
Journey back to a simpler time as you head out of the city to Zaanse Schans. This preserved village will give you insight into the heritage and tradition of the Netherlands. Take in impressive windmills, 18th-century buildings, museums, and freshly baked food. Try some authentic Dutch cheese, then cap things off with fresh cookies!
We’ve put together a snapshot of a typical entrepreneurial internship, based on a 6-week program.
As your plane lands at Schiphol Airport, you can’t believe it: after months of preparation, your internship is about to begin. You can’t wait to explore Amsterdam; but first, you’ll want to meet us in arrivals and allow us to take you to your accommodation for the next few weeks.
Spend the rest of your first day unwinding in a way that suits you. For some that’s laying low in a nearby café; for others it’s jumping on a bike and making their way into the heart of the city. The choice is yours. Next, you’ll join us on day two for your orientation. We’ll get you up to speed with everything that awaits you on your program. That evening, you’ll meet your Beyond Community; you’ll soon make the best of friends.
The Dutch are very particular about time, so turn up promptly for your first day of work and meet your colleagues. You’re here to learn the ropes, and they’ll be a fantastic source of professional advice as you work. You’ll soon find yourself one of the team, so put the work in and you’ll thrive.
As you get stuck in to your workload, you’ll likely start to find yourself stretched and challenged by new tasks and experiences. To help you adapt, it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. You’ll work with coaches and speakers as you develop your core skills, ready to apply your new knowledge to your internship.
Then it’s already time for your first trip. Take a leisurely cruise down the canals of Amsterdam as you explore the Venice of the North in all its glory. Experience everything the city has to offer, all from a new perspective.
As the weeks progress, your skill-set and confidence have been growing. You know all the right questions to ask in a meeting with clients or funders; and you’re a jack of all trades, able to tackle any task in front of you in the all-hands-on-deck atmosphere of a startup. So now’s a good time to head out with your manager to one of Amsterdam’s trendy coffee shops and discuss how you’re getting on.
A few weeks in, you might want to relax with a midweek community dinner. This is a great way to catch up with your new friends and swap stories of your experiences, all over some delicious food. Afterwards, head home by walking or cycling alongside a moonlit canal.
As you work, you’ll meet plenty of entrepreneurs and likely pick up a few contacts of your own. To further grow your network, head out to an exclusive industry session and meet and greet with top entrepreneurial minds. You never know what might come of it!
For your second trip, take a cultural deep-dive into Amsterdam with a market tour. Sample delicious food and drink as you chat with locals and learn a bit of history and culture. Then cap off your trip with a visit to the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Your internship is drawing to a close, so you’ve pencilled in your 1-to-1 career session to cap things off. With professional guidance, you’ve been looking back at what you’ve achieved: fantastic work experience, a complete cultural education, and life-long friends and contacts. Imagine what you could have done with more time here! Conclude your session by planning your next steps after leaving the city.
You now know Amsterdam like the back of your hand, so your final trip is to Zaanse Schans. Head out of the city as you step back in time: take in some traditional heritage, centuries-old buildings, and delicious fresh food. Then grab some souvenirs to bring back for friends and family.
Your last scheduled event is your farewell dinner. Put on your best clothes and meet up with your friends for one last time. Arrange the details of your first group meet-up after leaving Amsterdam, then say goodbye. Before you’re due to depart, you’ll want to dash around the city and take in as much as possible. Immerse yourself among quirky shops in the Jordaan neighborhood, or else take in some fine art in the Rijksmuseum. You won’t regret making the most of your time here.
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.
