Grab a bike and explore the city, then stop off for a coffee in one of Amsterdam’s many cafés. Or prepare a picnic and take in one of Amsterdam’s curated green spaces, decorated with beautiful flowers and iconic tulips. Of course, there’s all the museums and art galleries you could ever need; as well as restaurants and bars offering a unique Dutch experience.

Take advantage of your international experience to get to know as many professionals in your industry as possible; after all, you never know where your next job or interview offer may come from. We’ll send you an invite to an exclusive industry event, so head along and meet some of the top names in environmentalism!
Take a relaxing cruise around Amsterdam as you experience life from a new perspective. Kick back and relax as you sight-see around the city; from iconic sights to multi-colored gabled buildings, there’s no better way to get to know Amsterdam. And as you go, feast on some delicious Dutch food and drink!
Dive into the heart of Amsterdam with a market tour. Immerse yourself in the history and culture of this multifaceted city as you explore a variety of stalls and markets. Meet new people and experience Amsterdam from a street level; and make sure to sample some Dutch classics while you’re here, including Hollandse nieuwe (raw herring) and deep-fried kroket!
Head out to Zaanse Schans to get a glimpse of a simpler time. This centuries-old site, full of preserved buildings and windmills, is the perfect opportunity to learn a bit of Dutch history. Visit museums and traditional houses, then sample some fresh food at a nearby bakery. Grab some handcrafted souvenirs from artisanal shops before you leave!
You’ll be eager to discover just what it’s like to embark upon an environmental internship. So here’s a snapshot of a typical 6-week program.
As soon as your plane touches down, you breathe a sigh of relief; you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. An entire city awaits; but to begin with, meet us in arrivals and we’ll whisk you to your home for the coming weeks.
Your first day is yours to spend as you wish. You might want to lounge around in your room and sleep off the jet lag; or hop on a bike and start exploring. Either way, join us on day two for your comprehensive orientation. We’ll familiarize you with everything awaiting you in Amsterdam, including trips and social events. Afterwards, meet your new community. You’ll soon be the closest of friends.
Head over to the office and meet your new colleagues. Work hard to impress them; they’ll be a vital support network throughout your time here, offering professional advice and industry knowledge. They’ll treat you like one of the team, so get stuck in!
As you tackle your workload, you’ll find yourself challenged by new and unforeseen tasks. That’s why it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop; here, you’ll undertake exercises in an array of core competencies, all under the watchful eye of professional coaches. It’s a great way to feel invigorated for the rest of your internship.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip: a canal cruise through Amsterdam. Soak up the atmosphere as you float along; spot some iconic sights and striking architecture while snacking on some tasty food!
You’ve been growing more and more confident as the weeks go on. You’re on top of all the latest developments in the world of sustainability; and you’re able to deftly summarize them either verbally or in written reports for your colleagues. Take some time out with your manager and discuss your progress so far.
By now, you might want to catch up with your friends at a mid-week community dinner. Swap stories and unwind as you indulge in some delicious food; then cycle home along a moonlit canal.
In Amsterdam, you’ll meet plenty of fellow professionals and you’re likely to make a few connections of your own. To assist you as you develop your fledgling network, we’ll send out an invite to an exclusive industry event. Meet some top environmentalists and make a good impression; job or interview offers may come your way!
Your second trip is an immersion in the heart of Amsterdam. Take this market tour to get to grips with the city; try some sumptuous Dutch food as you learn a bit of local history and culture. Make sure you stop off and take in the glorious Old Town before the trip is over.
Your internship is nearing its end, and you’ve scheduled your 1-to-1 career session to review what you’ve achieved. Looking back, you’ve gained world-class work experience, a total cultural immersion, and friends for life. Not bad for six weeks! Finish off your meeting by setting out a roadmap of the steps you’d like to take after leaving Amsterdam.
Your final trip is a journey to Zaanse Schans. Head out of the city as you catch a glimpse of a simpler time. Take in well-preserved buildings, museums, artisanal stores, and some freshly baked food. Then grab some souvenirs for friends and family back home.
Your last event is your goodbye dinner. It’ll be an emotional night; share your favorite stories of your time together, arrange your first group meet-up, and then say goodbye. Before you’re due to fly out, make sure you’ve checked off everything you want to do in Amsterdam. Head to the Torture Museum for a gruesome historical experience; or for something lighter, visit Micropia to take in the world’s first microbial zoo!
