Give your career a boost in Berlin with first class work experience.
Berlin is one of the greenest cities in Europe; with more parks and gardens than any other city in Europe there’s plenty of opportunity to help the environment. The city has made big strides to lower its impact on the planet, cutting environmental emissions by a third since 1990, putting it on track to achieve the goal of climate neutrality.
But while you’re helping to develop innovative ways to improve the environment, you’ll want to stop and enjoy the city. There is so much culture in Berlin that you’ll be sure to find something that really speaks to you; from the stunning public art to the delicious doner kebab there really is something for everyone. And between the history, food, and culture you’ll be spoiled for choice.

After you arrive, you’ll receive a detailed orientation; we provide you with all you need to know about your internship and Berlin. Whether you have questions about how to get around on public transport or want to know a little bit about your new firm, we’re here to help. But it doesn’t stop there – we organize regular social events so look out for the invitations and take some time to step away from work and experience the best of what Berlin has to offer with your fellow interns.
Protecting our planet is an international industry. Meet important innovators in the field and make valuable connections at a professional networking event. Wherever your career takes you, the relationships you start here will help you on that journey. And who knows, you may just find yourself rubbing shoulders with your future employer.
For your first day trip, you’ll be whisked away to picturesque Potsdam. A quick journey from Berlin, this city will have you feeling like you’re right in the middle of a fairy tale; from the elaborate palaces to the lush green parks, your surroundings will harken back to a bygone era. Wander over to the Holländerviertel (Dutch Quarter) to see quaint Dutch-style red brick houses, the largest number outside of the Netherlands! Many of these houses have been renovated into boutiques and cafés, so take a moment to relax with a cup of coffee and a pastry.
Berlin has a long-established contemporary art scene and you can find evidence of that everywhere you go. A natural opportunity for an art tour, your second outing will take you around the city to art galleries and museums where you’ll take in the striking artwork that calls Berlin home. Between stops, you’ll sample some of Berlin’s amazing street food. Your next bratwurst is just around the corner!
A relic of the early 20th century, Clärchens Ballhaus is a landmark in Berlin’s music scene. You won’t find anything like it as this ballroom is one of the last remaining in Germany. When you step inside, you’ll grab a drink and be enveloped in great live music. Let the atmosphere take you back to Berlin’s golden era. The memory of the experience will last a lifetime!
Here’s a look at what a typical 6-week internship in Berlin looks like:
Months of anticipation have led to this moment – you’ve finally touched down in Berlin! When you step off the plane, we’ll be there to greet you and take you to your new home. Once you drop your bags and take the chance to sit down, you’ll have the rest of the day to acclimate. Hop on public transport and explore the city or settle in and get comfortable while you recover from the long plane journey.
On your second day, you’ll join us for your detailed orientation. A chance to get important information about your internship and the city, you’ll also get to ask any questions you may have. That evening you’ll meet your new friends – and sample an authentic German dish or two.
Make sure you arrive in plenty of time for your first day of work. This is your chance to meet your new colleagues and make a great first impression. As you begin to dive into your workload, make sure you draw on your colleagues’ experience. They are there to help you succeed, ask questions and learn something new!
You may find your new responsibilities a little bit overwhelming in the beginning, especially if you’re new to the sector. If you find yourself in this position, get on top of things with a skills workshop. Taken early in your internship, this session will help you hone key skills with the support of a professional coach. This proactive effort will give you confidence and pay dividends in the weeks to come.
Next, it’s time to take some time to relax with an excursion to Potsdam. A short journey from Berlin, this city will transport you to a different time. Immerse yourself in German history and make memories in this medieval city.
By now you’re starting to get comfortable in your new role. Three weeks in and you’re tracking innovations in the field, updating your colleagues on new environmental reports, and you’re even improving your communication skills by designing programming for area schools to boost local awareness. Now is a great time to meet with your manager and talk about your progress.
After an intense few weeks, it’s time to relax and unwind. Grab a meal with your friends at one of our community dinners. It’s the perfect opportunity to share stories and hear about what your friends have been up to at their own internships over some great food.
At this point in your internship, you’re starting to meet people and getting to know the thought leaders in the environmental field. Build and strengthen your professional connections within the industry at a professional networking session. We’ll ensure you’re invited to a great event where you’ll get the opportunity to talk with veterans of the sector and learn from their experience. You never know that conversation could lead to an interview!
Now it’s time for your second day trip! Get ready to see Berlin in a new light; journey through the unparalleled art scene and take in some amazing street food.
As your internship draws to a close, be sure to book a personalized career session. This is your chance to reflect on all you’ve achieved, the experiences you’ve had and the connections you’ve created. Use this session to look to the future and develop a career roadmap with the support of a professional coach.
Your final trip is a trip back in time to experience early 20th century Berlin at Clärchens Ballhaus. In this glamorous ballroom you’ll be able to dance the night away to live music with your friends, punctuated by delectable cocktails.
Now your time in Berlin is drawing to a close; we’ll organize a farewell dinner to give you a chance to share memories that you’ll take with you after you leave and say your final goodbyes.
Before you fly home you’ll have a couple of days to make the most of your remaining time in Berlin. Get the most from the city with a sunset drink at Klunkerkranich Bar and stop by Tiergarten Park so you can say you found the famous Stand By Me tree!
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.

Our housing partners in Berlin are carefully selected to meet stringent standards for safety, quality, and cleanliness. You’ll likely be placed in a shared apartment or student accommodation, living with fellow Beyond interns or other young professionals. This is a great way to build a community, especially if you’ve come a long way to Berlin.
It’s important to have your own space, so rest assured that you’ll have your own private bedroom with bedding, Wi-Fi, and maybe even a desk. There will be plenty of shared communal space, including a kitchen, bathroom, and other living spaces. No two locations are exactly the same but your accommodation will be in close proximity to public transport; depending on the location of your firm, we aim to ensure your commute is no more than 30-60 minutes.
Typically we will confirm your accommodation and location 3-4 weeks before your Environmental & Sustainability internship. This is due to the high demand and ever-changing availability of short-term accommodation.
