We’ve put together a snapshot of what a typical Seoul internship might look like, based on a 6-week Environmental & Sustainability internship program.
After months of careful planning, you can’t quite believe that you’re in South Korea. It’s time for the biggest adventure of your life. But first thing’s first; meet us at the Incheon International airport and we’ll take you straight to your accommodation for the next few weeks.
On your first day, you can choose how you want to unwind after a long plane journey. Some lay low in their accommodation and sleep off the jet lag; others jump on a subway and head straight into the heart of Seoul to begin exploring! Whatever you choose, you’ll join us on your second day for your orientation. We’ll run you through everything you need to know about your program. Afterwards, you’ll want to head out and meet your brand new Beyond Community. Get to know each other over authentic Korean food.
On your first day at work, impress your new colleagues with a display of professionalism and hard work. You might choose to unwind afterwards at a community dinner or social event. Regale your new friends with stories of your first day. Take the subway or walk along the Han River to get home.
You’ll find yourself regularly stretched and challenged by your environmental internship. So, to prepare yourself thoroughly, take your skills workshop. Under the watchful eye of coaches and speakers improve your key competencies; and emerge ready to take on the world.
Lastly, begin looking forward to the trip to Andong. From its 600-year-old houses, to the retelling of the histories of the Ryu family from the Joseon Dynasty who lived in the village, you’ll have a seriously fascinating time.
As the weeks go on, you’ll have found yourself adapting into your role. From producing a wealth of written material, including press releases and blog posts; to engaging in in-depth research to summarize environmental policy developments for clients and stakeholders. It’s a good time to head out with your manager and discuss your progress so far.
An international city, you’ll have likely already begun to make connections as you work. To aid you as you build your own network of contacts, we’ll send out an invite to a top industry event. Head along and introduce yourself to industry leaders in the sustainability sector. You never know how a swapped contact detail or two might pay off down the line.
Soon, it’s time for your second trip. Seoul is home to a culinary culture unlike any other in the world. Try as much as you can, from delicious Korean food to a range of authentic international dishes. Learn about this fascinating city through its diverse array of food.
You’ll be fully at home in your Internship now, so it’s a great time to look ahead.
If you’ve not done it already, make sure you fit in your 1-to-1 career coaching session. It’s a chance not many professionals get and lets you explore your dreams and ambitions. You can chat over the things you’re finding a little tougher, and set goals and plans for your future career success.
Lastly, begin looking forward to the trip to Andong. From its 600-year-old houses, to the retelling of the histories of the Ryu family from the Joseon Dynasty who lived in the village, you’ll have a seriously fascinating time.
