You’ll no doubt be feeling nervous about embarking upon an international internship. To help you settle in, you’ll join the Beyond Community; a group of new and existing interns, some of whom may have already completed their internship. It’s the best support network you could possibly ask for.
Before you begin your internship, we’ll take you on an orientation around Amsterdam. We’ll get you up to speed with everything awaiting you in the city; from the work you’ll be doing to the trips and social events that await you.
After the orientation, our welcome lunch or dinner will be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know your fellow interns better. Many of our previous interns have made friends for life during their internship programs!
Every few weeks, you’ll have the chance to meet up with your friends at our popular community meals. It’s a great opportunity to unwind after a busy week.
As well as fantastic work experience, working in Amsterdam will give you the chance to gain a total cultural immersion. To that end, we’ll organize three exciting half-day trips, including a market tour and a canal cruise. It’s a great way of getting to know your host city.

With start dates every month, and lasting anywhere between one and six months in length, you can pencil in an internship program at the right time for you.

Countless fashion houses and boutique stalls have their home here, and Amsterdam is a world leader in sustainable fashion. Whether that’s non-toxic fabric dye, textile recycling, or a thriving second-hand clothing culture. It’s a great place for an eco-minded fashion intern to start their career. Armed with new methods and approaches, you’ll leave the city having developed your own style. And you’ll be ready to jump into the busy world of fashion!

Our skills workshop is carefully designed to assist you as you adapt to the challenges of your internship.
With the guidance of professional coaches and inspirational speakers, you’ll undertake an array of exercises to strengthen your core skills. Including leadership and confidence in a professional setting.
You’ll leave feeling reinvigorated and ready to face everything your internship could throw at you.
This 1-to-1 career session is a fantastic opportunity to look back on your achievements so far. Consider your strengths and weaknesses, then set out your plans for the future; all with the guidance of a professional coach.
Of course, you’ll be keeping busy with various trips, dinners, and meetings. So pencil this session in at a time that suits you.
Some opt to take this session early in their program. Here, you can get yourself into the right mindset for the coming weeks; you might even like to set out some goals that you’d like to have achieved by the end of your program. Otherwise, wait a couple of weeks and schedule a more balanced session; look back at what you’ve gained so far, then make adjustments for your remaining time in Amsterdam.
Lastly, you could take your appointment in the closing days of your internship. Reflect on what you’ve achieved, then start thinking about your next steps after leaving the city.

You’ll learn a range of skills as you undertake your fashion internship. It’s a varied industry and no two days will ever be the same. Here’s a few examples of what you should expect to be doing in your role:
– Generate regular ideas for blog posts or social media content
– Research and track both fashion and social media trends, and respond accordingly
– Prepare and distribute materials, including lookbooks, press releases and invitations
– Oversee administrative office duties eg. photocopying, ordering stationery and art materials as required
– Create content to improve brand awareness, influence and engagement

Experience Amsterdam from a unique perspective as you embark upon this relaxing canal cruise. Take in the sights from all across the city as you float along; including a range of colorful gabled buildings and curated, tulip-filled green spaces. There’ll also be a selection of delicious Dutch food and drink on offer, so try it all!
Dive into the heart of Amsterdam with this market tour. Chat with the locals as you learn a bit of culture and history; and as you market-hop through the city, you’ll also have the chance to sample an array of exquisite Dutch food. Try some delicious stroopwafel pastries or patat French fries; then branch out and try some international stalls. Sample some authentic Indonesian Sate Padang or crispy Japanese tempura!
Take in the world-famous sight of Dutch windmills as you head out of the city to Zaanse Schans. Full of preserved buildings, museums and food, you’ll dive into Dutch history and learn a bit more about traditional life. Discover the process of making clogs and clocks, then sample some freshly made chocolate, cookies, or cheese!
To give you a glimpse at life in Amsterdam, we’ve put together a snapshot of a typical 6-week Fashion internship.
After months of preparation and planning, you’ve finally touched down in Amsterdam. As you flew in, you just about glimpsed the iconic canals of the city; you can’t wait to dive into everything Amsterdam has to offer. But first up, meet us in arrivals and allow us to whisk you to your new accommodation.
Spend the rest of your first day in a way that suits you. For some that’ll be laying low in your room or a nearby café; for others it’s hopping on a bike or water taxi and experiencing as much of Amsterdam as possible. Whatever you choose, you’ll join us on your second day for a comprehensive orientation. We’ll get you up to speed with everything awaiting you on your program, including Amsterdam itself. Then head out to your first community dinner to meet your new best friends. It’s a fun evening of good food and good company, so don’t miss it.
Turn up to work nice and early on your first day; the Dutch are very particular about time. Put in the effort and impress your colleagues, and make sure to ask for it whenever you need help; an internship is a learning experience, after all. Your colleagues and manager will be a constant source of assistance and support throughout your time in Amsterdam.
You might find yourself stretched and challenged by your workload, so why not attend an early skills workshop? It’s a great place to prepare for the varied tasks you’ll be undertaking, all with the guidance of coaches and speakers. You’ll leave able to apply your new knowledge to your internship – and impress your colleagues.
Next, it’s time to get ready for your first trip: a luxurious canal cruise. Float through the heart of Amsterdam as you go sight-seeing; and sample a range of sumptuous food as you do it!
By week three, you’ve found yourself getting into the groove of your fast-paced internship. You’ll on top of all the latest industry trends, summarizing them in detailed reports; and you’ve mastered social media engagement, boosting your firm’s follower count in the process. So head out with your manager to discuss how you feel you’re getting on.
Work’s been busy so far, so you might want to unwind at a mid-week community dinner. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with your friends as you chat the night away; to get home, take a moonlit walk along a canal.

For your second trip, take a market tour around the heart of Amsterdam as you immerse yourself in the city’s culture and history. Chat with locals as you get to know their stories, then sample some delicious food and drink. Before you leave, make sure you explore the beautiful Old Town.
As your internship nears its end, you’ve taken some time out with a career coach to look back on what you’ve gained. Consider the industry skills and knowledge you’ve developed and how you might apply them in the future; as well as the friends and contacts you’ve made. Not to mention the cultural education you’ve experienced. All in all, it’s been a life-changing few weeks.
Cap off your three half-day trips with a journey to Zaanse Schans. Head out of Amsterdam and get to grips with a traditionally Dutch experience. Take in the collection of windmills, museums, and bakeries as you immerse yourself in a simpler time.
Your last scheduled event is your goodbye dinner. Meet up with your friends for one last time as you reminisce about your Amsterdam experience. Swap contact details and pledge to stay in touch, then say farewell. And before you leave, make sure you’ve got as much out of Amsterdam as possible. Our housing partners in Amsterdam are carefully chosen to meet our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Fashion internship begins. This is due to the demand for short term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
