New York’s most populous borough, there’s plenty to do in Brooklyn. Enjoy the Brooklyn Botanic Garden as you experience over 50 acres of plants; then try the New York Transit Museum, dedicated to the history of New York’s Subway, bus, and rail systems. Finish off your day by taking in an unmissable sunset from Brooklyn Bridge.
Take in a lesser-known part of New York history with a visit to the Lower East Side. The city’s first racially integrated neighborhood, the Lower East Side has a unique history of diversity and activism. See it for yourself at the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space; then pick out some street art. Afterwards, explore the Tenement Museum for an insight into the past.
Famous the world over for its musical output, New York and jazz have a long history. Even today, jazz artists seek out the city as a way of making their name. Head to a jazz club or two and experience the sounds of some fantastic up-and-coming musicians; enjoy the variety of food and drink on offer as you do it!

If you’re keen to know what work experience in New York looks like, we’ve put together this glimpse at a typical 6-week Fashion internship.
As your plane glides down, take in that iconic Manhattan skyline. You can’t quite believe you’re about to spend the next six weeks immersing yourself in the Big Apple. So many opportunities await you, but first thing’s first: meet us at the airport and then allow us to whisk you straight to your room. You can spend the rest of your first day as you wish; unwind after a long flight or head out of the door and begin exploring the city.
Join us on day two for your orientation. Here we’ll introduce you to your program, as well as New York itself. Afterwards, head out to meet your new friends. Get to know your Beyond Community over a quintessential New York dish; you’ll be spending a lot of time together over the next few weeks.
On your first day of work, head over to the office and get to know your team. Familiarize yourself with your tasks and responsibilities, then get to work! Your colleagues are here to help you, so draw on their experiences and knowledge. It’s a learning experience, after all.
You’ll soon find yourself challenged by your hectic workload, so it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Under the guidance of coaches and speakers, train your core competencies and leave this session ready to take on everything your internship could throw at you!
Soon enough, it’s time for your first day trip. Experience Brooklyn, a world-famous borough that offers something for everyone. Indulge in an artisan coffee shop, browse a range of cosy bookstores, then take in the view from Brooklyn Bridge.
By week three, you’ve found yourself growing more and more confident in your role. Your hard work is really paying off: from increased engagement with your firm’s social media presence; to a newfound confidence and ability to independently engage with clients and investors. You might want to grab a coffee with your manager to discuss your progress.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks, so why not take a break with your friends at a community dinner? Chat about your progress as you try one of New York’s many international dishes. Enjoy your evening, then grab the subway home.
As your internship passes the half-way point, you might want to start thinking about future opportunities. To this end, we’ll help you grow your contact list by sending out an invite to the best networking event in the city. Head along and meet with top fashion executives; in this industry, who you know can be just as important as what you know.
Next up, it’s time for your second tour. Visit the historic Lower East Side, a neighborhood with a long and rich history of activism and diversity. Soak up the art and music on display as you get to know a bit of local history.
As your program is nearing its end, you’ve decided to take your 1-to-1 career session. Meet up with a career coach and review your achievements. Have you met all the goals you wanted to meet? Conclude the session by casting your mind out to the future; consider the opportunities that await!
Your final trip will take you on a musical experience like no other. It’s time to immerse yourself in New York’s world-famous jazz scene. Soak up some notes as you try a delicious cocktail or two. It’s an unmissable New York experience.
Before you know it, it’s time for your final dinner. Meet up with your community for one last time; arrange your first big group meet-up, then say goodbye. Before you leave New York, see as many of the city’s attractions as you can. Head to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to discover over 5,000 years of art history; or take a harbor cruise along the Hudson River!
