We’ve put together a snapshot of a typical Fashion internship in Seoul, based on a 6-week program.
After much anticipation, the adventure of a lifetime is about to begin. Welcome to Seoul, the bustling heart of South Korea. Meet us at the airport so we can take you straight to your new home for the next 6 weeks.
On your first day, unwind in a way that suits you. Whether that’s kicking back in your new apartment or a nearby café. Alternatively, hop on public transport and explore the city straight away. On day two, join us for your detailed orientation. Get the lowdown on everything that awaits you on your program and get to know Seoul. Afterwards, it’s time to get to know your brand-new Beyond Community.
Day one of work, introduce yourself to your colleagues and manager. Work hard and you’ll impress your new team. That evening, you might want to unwind at a community dinner. If you’ve tried Korean food already, why not branch out and try something international? If the weather’s nice, you could grab takeout and head to a nearby park or one of Seoul’s many green spaces
Your fashion internship will regularly throw up new and unexpected challenges. To prepare yourself, take an early skills workshop. Work with coaches and speakers to hone your skills and abilities.
Lastly, begin looking forward to the trip to Andong. From its 600-year-old houses, to the retelling of the histories of the Ryu family from the Joseon Dynasty who lived in the village, you’ll have a seriously fascinating time.
As your internship progresses, you’ll feel increasingly confident in your skills. You’re familiar with Korean business etiquette and know your way around the workshop or office. You’ve gained a mastery of the latest trends and styles. Plus, you’re now a pro at handling and engaging with press enquiries. So head out with your manager to a nearby café (Seoul has a great coffee culture) and review your progress so far.
You’ll meet new and interesting people constantly as the weeks go on. And you’ll have likely picked up a few contacts of your own. But to help you build up your network, we’ll send out an invite to a top industry event. Get to know the fashion movers and shakers; you never know, the right introduction may pay off down the line.
Soon, it’s time for your second trip: the food tour. Seoul boasts a unique and comprehensive culinary culture; so try it all, from the traditionally Korean to the invitingly international! Get to know this amazing city in the best way possible… via its food!
You’ll be fully at home in your Internship now, so it’s a great time to look ahead.
If you’ve not done it already, make sure you fit in your 1-to-1 career coaching session. It’s a chance not many professionals get and lets you explore your dreams and ambitions. You can chat over the things you’re finding a little tougher, and set goals and plans for your future career success.
Lastly, begin looking forward to the trip to Andong. From its 600-year-old houses, to the retelling of the histories of the Ryu family from the Joseon Dynasty who lived in the village, you’ll have a seriously fascinating time.
All good things must come to an end and we’ll make sure you get a great send off at our farewell dinner. Say goodbye to the amazing people you’ve met and get ready to head home.
