For the creative mind, the fashion sector will open up an endless array of possibilities. From reporting on all the latest trends; to setting them yourself as you design and stylize. Or you could be working in PR for a high-end fashion house or boutique firm; issuing press releases or working with the media to increase your company’s reach and influence. Your firm might be focused on the Victorian-influenced Lolita style or the ’90s-inspired Peeps trend. But whatever the fashion, you’ll prosper as you build up your professional skill-set and knowledge.
You’ll leave Tokyo with an international outlook, au fait with all the latest global trends. And if you’ve impressed the right people, you may even be able to jump straight into your next job.

Some interns choose an early session to make the most of their time in Tokyo. Here you can set out your expectations for the weeks ahead, as well as consider your strengths and weaknesses in depth. Alternatively, you might want to meet roughly half-way through your internship. This is good for a balanced session; you can look back on your progress so far and consider the adjustments you’d like to make going forward.
And lastly, you could take your session in the final days of your internship. This is a great way to finish off your program; consider what you’ve achieved and then plan out your next steps for career success.
And throughout your internship, we’ll offer you personalized career advice and interview tips. Whether that’s CV or resume advice; or assistance as you assemble a professional portfolio.
Use our portal of online tools and resources to boost your skills and employability.

Creative types will flourish in the fashion industry. Whether you’re setting up the perfect photoshoot or designing the next trend-setting item of clothing. Here’s just a few examples of the tasks you might be undertaking:
– Generate regular ideas for blog posts or social media content
– Oversee the creation of questions for interviews
– Research and track both fashion and social media trends, and respond accordingly

Here’s a snapshot of a typical Tokyo Fashion internship, based on a 6-week program.
As your plane touches down, you’ve gained your first glimpse of the futuristic metropolis of Tokyo. You can’t wait to explore, and with good reason; an incredible cultural experience awaits. But first thing’s first: meet us in arrivals and allow us to take you to your home for the next few weeks.
How you unwind on your first day is up to you. Some head straight out into the city to start exploring; others relax at home or in a nearby café. Either way, join us on day two for your orientation. Here we’ll introduce you to your program, as well as Tokyo itself. Afterwards, head out and meet your brand-new Beyond Community. Get to know each other over some delicious Japanese cuisine; you’ll soon make fast friends.
When your internship begins, turn up on time, remain respectful, and work hard to impress your new colleagues. After a busy day, you might want to unwind at a community dinner; let your new friends know how it went over a steaming bowl of ramen. Afterwards, take Tokyo’s high-tech subway home.
You’ll find yourself dealing with new and unexpected challenges as your internship progresses. Early on, it’s a good idea to take a skills workshop to prepare yourself for the work ahead. Boost your core competencies with professional coaches, and leave ready to take on everything your internship can throw at you.
Soon it’s time for your first trip. Head to Mount Fuji to discover peaceful shrines, breath-taking lakes, and stunning natural beauty. Ascend the mountain and try to get a view of Tokyo!
As the weeks progress, you’re feeling more and more comfortable in your role. Whether that’s preparing visual material for distribution to clients and press; or simply interacting with followers on social media as you build up your brand’s online presence. So it’s a good time to chat with your manager about how you feel things are going.
Tokyo is an international city, and you’ll likely have met plenty of international professionals already. To help you build up your own personal network of contacts, we’ll send you an invite to an exclusive industry event. Here you’ll have the chance to meet and greet with top fashion professionals; make a good impression and it might just pay off.
Next, it’s time for your second event. You’ll learn the secrets of traditional Japanese tea-making, while wearing the traditional kimono!
It’s week five, and you’re shocked by how quickly your internship has progressed; you feel like you’ve spent months here already! Looking back, you soon realize that you’ve gained world-class work experience, a complete cultural immersion, and life-long friends. Just imagine what you could do with more time! If you haven’t already, now’s a good time to schedule your 1-to-1 career coaching session. You can consider your achievements, and look ahead to the future, all with professional guidance.
Your final trip is a visit to the city-within-a-city; Shinjuku. Discover everything this busy district has on offer; from a Samurai Museum to delicious food and drink, as well as some of the best nightlife in Japan.
Your last scheduled event is your goodbye dinner. It’s time to meet up with your community for one last time. So put on your best clothes and head out to a restaurant together. Swap stories of your favorite memories from the last six weeks, pledge to stay in contact, and then say farewell. And in the remaining days before you’re due to fly out, make one last dash around the city to see and do as much as you can. Visit the Robot Restaurant for a bizarre and futuristic experience; or head up Tokyo Tower for one final view of this amazing city!
