Even as your plane is still in the air, you can just make out a couple of New York landmarks. There’s the Statue of Liberty, standing in New York Harbor; and you get a shining glimpse of the newly built Freedom Tower. New York is a city full of hotspots and icons, and you’re about to uncover it all. Meet us in arrivals and let us take you straight to your waiting accommodation. Your first day is yours to spend as you wish: sleep off the jet lag or dive straight into the heart of the city.
Meet us on your second day for your orientation. This is where we’ll get you up to speed with your coming internship. That evening, you’ll meet your Beyond Community for the first time. Get to know your new friends in a New York restaurant or deli; why not try a slice of iconic New York pizza?
On your first day of work, head over to the office and introduce yourself to your co-workers. Your manager will introduce you to your firm and your tasks and responsibilities; after that, it’s time to get to work. Your colleagues will possess invaluable insight into your sector; draw on their knowledge and experience as you develop your own skill-set.
Your workload will pose plenty of challenges; especially if you’ve never worked in finance or accounting before. So take an early skills workshop to boost your skills. Work with professional coaches and speakers to improve your core competencies.
It’s already time for your first day trip. Journey to the world-famous borough of Brooklyn, where there’s a wide variety of things to see and do. Enjoy some delicious food and drink, then take in the amusements at Coney Island. Finish off your day by watching a sunset from Brooklyn Bridge.
It’s your third week, and you feel like you’ve really got to grips with your role. Whether it’s keeping careful track of the financial markets; or offering sound advice to clients and investors alongside your colleagues. You’ve already learned so much, so arrange a meeting with your manager to discuss your progress.
It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and you’re looking for the chance to unwind; why not accept a community dinner invite? Meet up with your friends and swap stories about your first few weeks in your role; try one of New York’s many enticing international dishes and chat the night away.
You’ll certainly have met plenty of your fellow financial professionals while in New York; and you’ll probably have picked up a contact or two. Attend an industry networking session as you get to know the world of finance; make the right connection and good things may come of it.
Then it’s time for your second tour. Take a visit down to the Lower East Side, a hotbed of political activism and culture. Discover some local history and immerse yourself in the artistic output of the neighborhood.
Your internship is approaching its end, and you’ve booked in your 1-to-1 session. Use this chance to look back on your time here. Consider what you’ve achieved and what could have been done better; cap off your meeting by turning your eye to the opportunities that await you upon your return home.
For your final trip, it’s time to take a deep dive into the heart of New York jazz. This unmissable musical experience will see you immersed in the heart of the greatest jazz city in the world. Hear some old favorites and discover some new artists!
You can’t believe your time has come, but you’ve got one final event to attend: your goodbye dinner. Meet up with your friends for one last time; reminisce and laugh about your time in the city, then say goodbye.
In your final few days, get as much out of the city as you possibly can. Visit the New York Catacombs by candle-light; or take in the crumbling ruins of the Roosevelt Island Smallpox Hospital for a spooky experience.
