While you live in Tokyo, you’ll have the constant support of our local team. Whether you need help navigating Japanese business culture, or you’re just looking for restaurant recommendations, they’ll be there.
When you arrive in Tokyo, we’ll get you familiar with what’s to come on your program – as well as the city itself.
After the orientation, our welcome lunch or dinner will be the perfect opportunity for you to get to know your fellow interns better. Many of our previous interns have made friends for life during their internship programs!
You’ll receive regular invitations to our community lunches dinners. Catch up with your friends over a bite to eat, or grab takeaways and head out for an al fresco dining experience.

Explore the world-famous landmark of Mount Fuji. If you’re feeling brave, head up the mountain for some stunning vistas. On a clear day, you’ll get an unmatched view of Tokyo! Otherwise, stay at ground level and immerse yourself beside Shinto shrines and peaceful lakes.
To the Japanese, attention to detail is everything. Learn all about the intricate process of traditional Japanese tea-making, all while donning a traditional kimono!
Visit a delightful interactive museum that showcases modern Japanese digital art technology at its finest!

After so much time waiting, you’ve finally made it to Tokyo. Who knows what awaits you in this brand new city? First, let us meet you at the airport and take you straight to your new home for the next few weeks.
Use your first day to kick back and relax; whether that’s sleeping off the jet lag or getting out there and exploring is up to you! On day two you’ll join us for your Tokyo orientation. We’ll run you through everything you need to know about your program, as well as the city itself. Afterwards, meet your brand-new Beyond Community. Enjoy some good conversation over delicious food – you’ll be spending a lot of time with your fellow interns over the coming weeks!
It’s time to dive straight into your internship, so head over to the office and meet your colleagues. Make a good first impression and begin your working experience with aplomb. Afterwards, why not unwind at a community dinner? Navigate Tokyo’s high-tech public transport to get home.
When working in HR, you’ll find yourself regularly stretched and challenged. So it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Work with coaches to sharpen your existing skills and gain some impressive new knowledge. You’ll leave newly confident in your skills and abilities!
Before you know it, it’s time for your first day trip. Head over to the iconic silhouette of Mount Fuji to experience some sublime natural beauty. Relax by ancient Shinto shrines or nearby tranquil lakes.
As the weeks progress, you’re settling in nicely to your HR internship. Your people skills and confidence have grown precipitously, and you’re only going to improve from here. So head out with your manager to a nearby café to discuss your progress so far.
While you work in Tokyo, you’ll be constantly meeting a diverse range of new and exciting people. So you’ll probably have started to build up a network of contacts. To help, we’ll send you invites to industry networking events. Head along and meet some top professional leaders – swap contact details with as many people as possible!
Next, it’s time for your second event. You’ll learn the secrets of traditional Japanese tea-making, while wearing the traditional kimono!
Your internship is drawing to a close, and you’re looking back on your time in Tokyo. You’ve had an amazing professional experience, gained life-long friends, and a prestigious list of industry contacts too. While you’ll miss Tokyo, you know it’s been a worthwhile experience.
If you haven’t already, take your 1-to-1 career coaching session. You’ll consider what you’ve learned and start planning for the future, all with the guidance of a professional coach.
During your time in Tokyo, you’ve truly immersed yourself in the city’s incredible culture. So it’s time for one last trip: Shinjuku. Experience Tokyo’s incredible nightlife scene as you visit bars, restaurants, and karaoke rooms; all to the glow of immersive neon light.
Before you leave, you’ve got one last event in the calendar: your farewell dinner. Congratulate your friends on the progress you all made while working here – it’s been an incredible journey. In the days before your flight, make one last dash around Tokyo to check off everything you possibly can. Visit the Edo-Tokyo Museum for some local history, immerse yourself in the delights of the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, or head up the Tokyo Skytree for an amazing view!

Our Tokyo housing partners are chosen to meet to our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. The housing we offer is mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. So your roommates will be fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals; it’s a great way to build a local community.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed close to public transport. Depending on the location of your firm, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Human Resources internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
