Your Amsterdam Community

Touching down in Amsterdam, you’ll feel a wave of relaxation wash over you. Amsterdam is a fairly unique city with its own pace; and lounging in a café, drinking coffee and watching the world go by, you’ll soon come to love it. Cycling is an iconic part of Dutch culture, and it contributes to the free-wheeling, anything-goes vibe of Amsterdam. And there’s nothing better than some fresh air and exercise as you bike around the city. You’ll also find a fantastic range of museums and art galleries here, offering a glimpse into the cultural and scientific explosion of the Dutch Golden Age; as well as the country’s imperial past. English is widely spoken in Amsterdam, so getting around will be no problem at all.

And beside you as you explore will be your Beyond Community. Your friends will be a fantastic support network and source of advice as you live here.

Before embarking upon your internship, we’ll take you through a comprehensive welcome orientation. We’ll introduce you to everything awaiting you in Amsterdam. And you’ll get plenty of invitations to community dinners, so make sure to head along! It’s the best way to kick back after a busy working week.

Your internship is an opportunity to make as many professional connections as you can; and given that Amsterdam is such an interconnected and international city, it’s a great place to do so. Canal Cruise

Take a cruise down the canals of Amsterdam to see the city from a new perspective. As you float serenely along, pick out iconic sights and beautiful green spaces and architecture; like the countless multi-colored gabled buildings dotted around the city. Make sure to snack on the available platter of delicious Dutch food; you’ll be sure to gain a brand-new appreciation for the city!

Market Tour

Journey into the heart of Amsterdam as you take a market tour around the city. You’ll experience every facet of Amsterdam; from the glorious delicacies of the Old Town to the sumptuous food of Chinatown. Try a fantastic range of Dutch food and drink, including gooey stroopwafel; afterwards, try the city’s impressive range of authentic international dishes.

Zaanse Schans

Get a glimpse of a simpler time as you journey to the preserved village of Zaanse Schans. Comprising 18th and 19th-century houses, bakeries, museums and windmills, you’ll immerse yourself in this slice of traditional Dutch life. Try some savory treats or fresh chocolate from a bakery, then immerse yourself in history and culture. And pick up a souvenir or two before you go.

Weeks 1 & 2

After months of excitement, you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. You can’t wait to see what this glorious city has in store for you. But to start with, meet us at the airport and let us whisk you straight to your new home.

Spend your first day unwinding after your journey. You might want to lay low in a nearby café or park; or jump on a bike and start exploring the city. The choice is yours. On your second day, you’ll meet us for your comprehensive orientation. This is your opportunity to get to grips with exactly what awaits you in Amsterdam. That evening, you might head out to dinner to meet your Beyond Community. Get to know each other over some delicious Dutch food!

Turn up to work early on your first day to make a good impression on your co-workers; then discover the work you’ll be doing here. Dive in; your colleagues and manager are here to help you, so make use of them if you get stuck or need help. It’s a learning experience, after all.

And as you begin to tackle your workload, you’ll likely soon find yourself challenged. So it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Here, you’ll work with coaches and speakers to develop your existing skills – and learn something new too. This session will be sure to help you get into the right mindset for the weeks ahead.

Soon, it’s already time for your first trip. Discover Amsterdam from a unique perspective as you take a cruise along the city’s canals. Go landmark spotting as you try some tasty food!

Weeks 3 & 4

As you enter week three, you feel that you’re getting to grips with your workload. Whether that’s scouring social media for the newest trends and news stories; or effectively editing footage to create fantastic video content. So take some time out with your manager to discuss how you’re getting on.

By now, you might want to kick back after a busy few weeks at a community dinner. It’s a great chance to meet up with your friends and chat about your internships. So head out to a restaurant or grab takeaways and have a picnic in a nearby park.

As you’ve worked, you’ll probably have already met a lot of international professionals. And you might have got to know some quite well. To help you build up your network, we’ll send you an invite to an exclusive industry event. Head along and meet top media leaders; you never know what may come of it!

It’s time for your second trip, so get ready for a market tour of Amsterdam. Experience every single cuisine this city has to offer as you soak up a bit of local history and culture.

Weeks 5 & 6

All good things must come to an end, and in week five your internship is drawing to a close. To cap things off, you’ve booked in your 1-to-1 career session to review your achievements. You realize you’ve gained first-rate work experience and professional contacts, a complete cultural immersion, and life-long friends. Not bad for six weeks! With professional guidance, turn your thoughts to the future as you set out your next steps after Amsterdam.

For your final trip, head out of the city as you journey to Zaanse Schans. Take in the well-preserved houses, museums, bakeries and windmills as you soak up the 18th-century atmosphere. And before you go, try some freshly made cheese or chocolate!

Your final scheduled event is your goodbye dinner. Head along as you meet up with your friends for one last time. Reminisce about your time in Amsterdam, then swap contact details and pledge to keep in touch. Before you’re due to fly out, you’ll want to make sure you’ve made the most out of Amsterdam.
