Under the professional guidance of coaches and speakers, you’ll undertake several exercises designed to boost your development and employability. From effective leadership to building your own personal brand.
You’ll leave this session feeling completely reinvigorated and ready to take on anything the world can throw at you.
You’ll have the opportunity to undertake a 1-to-1 session while in Barcelona. Alongside a professional coach, use this time to consider your strengths and weaknesses; then set the stage for your next steps and future career.
Depending on what you want to get out of this session, an early appointment can work well. This is a chance to set out your goals and expectations for your time in the city. Alternatively, a mid-term session is a good way of looking back on what you’ve learned so far; as well as making changes and adjustments for the rest of your internship.
Lastly, you can look back on your program with a session in your final few days. This way, you can review your successes and failures; all while looking out to the future as you set out a roadmap to your dream job.

Before you get started with your internship, we’ll take you through a comprehensive welcome orientation. Here, you’ll be introduced to Barcelona and all the work awaiting you. Every few weeks, you’ll also get invites to our popular community dinners. They’re a great way of unwinding after a busy week.
Your time in Barcelona is the chance to make as many professional connections as possible. We’ll help you grow your network by sending out an invitation to a top media event. Head along and chat with leaders in your industry; impress the right person and job or interview offers may soon come your way.
A popular tourist spot, take a journey out to Girona to experience narrow winding streets and stunning sights. Clamber up the ancient city walls for an unmatched view of the surrounding area; then immerse yourself in thousands of years of history and culture with a museum or gallery trip. Discover a living tribute to the city’s proud independent past at the Plaça de la Independència; then cap things off with a visit to the Jewish Quarters, some of the best-preserved in Europe.
One of Spain’s most prominent national dishes, paella is beloved all over the world; and it’s your turn to make some! Head out to a nearby market to pick up some authentic ingredients, including chicken and chorizo sausage. Then get to work alongside a master chef, picking up all the tips and tricks to this delicious meal. Impress friends and family back home with your new skill.
Take a unique journey into the heart of Barcelona as you immerse yourself in the city’s finest features; architecture and tapas! Discover Gothic spires and ancient cathedrals, as well as diverse and colorful modern buildings; then chow down on some delicious Spanish food and drink, hopping from tapas bar to tapas bar as you try it all!
We’ve put together a snapshot of a typical Barcelona media internship, based on a 6-week internship.
After months of excitement and anticipation, you’ve finally made it. Step off the plane into that Spanish sunshine; then meet us in arrivals and allow us to take you straight to your new home for the next few weeks.
Spend the rest of your first day unwinding. You might kick back in your room or a nearby tapas bar; or head straight out there and start exploring the city. The choice is yours. On your second day, join us for your orientation around the city. We’ll get you up to speed with everything awaiting you on your program. That evening, why not settle in to Barcelona life with your first community dinner? Get to know your Beyond Community as you sample some tasty Spanish food.
On your first day of work, introduce yourself to your manager and colleagues. You’ll be spending a lot of time here over the coming weeks, so get to know your new co-workers. Their expertise and insight will be useful as you learn and grow, so ask plenty of questions and work hard.
As you get your head around your workload, you’ll likely find yourself stretched and challenged. So take an early workshop and boost your core skills. Work closely with professional coaches to prepare for the weeks ahead; emerge from this session feeling reinvigorated and ready for anything.
It’s already time for your first trip. Visit nearby Girona to discover an ancient city of fantastic history and local culture; discover some impressive views, ancient ruins, and more!
It’s week three, and you’re finally getting the hang of your internship. You’re keeping a close eye on emerging trends to generate news stories or blog posts; and you’ve been boosting your firm’s social media presence, improving user engagement and brand awareness. So take some time out with your manager to review your progress.
After a busy few weeks, you’re probably looking to unwind with a community dinner. Meet up with your friends at a nearby international restaurant; or grab takeaways and sit on the beach! Chat long into the night, all over some delicious food.
You’ll likely have met a lot of fellow media professionals throughout your time here; and you might even have made a contact or two already. So head out to a networking session and chat with industry leaders. Impress the right person and it might just pay off!
Next up, you’re about to learn all the secrets to making authentic Spanish paella. Pick out some ingredients at a local market, then work closely with a master chef as you tackle this iconic dish. Once you get the hang of it, you’ll never forget it.
Barcelona feels like home now, and as your internship nears its end, you’ve been looking back on your time here. Take advantage of your 1-to-1 session to consider your progress and achievements; then plan out your next steps after leaving Barcelona.
Your final trip will take you into the heart of the city. By this point, you’ll be totally immersed in your second home; so take this opportunity to discover some hidden hotspots. Then chow down on as much Spanish food as you can as you hop from tapas bar to tapas bar.
Six weeks have flown by, and so it’s time for one final event: your farewell meal. Reminisce with your friends about your time in Barcelona, arrange the details of your first group meet-up, and then say goodbye.
In your final few days, take the opportunity to see as much of the city as you can. Journey up the Tibidabo mountain to discover an impressive temple and some stunning sights; or discover the Giants of Santa Maria del Pi, giant puppets housed within a Gothic church!

Our housing partners in Barcelona are carefully chosen to meet our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Journalism, Publishing & Media internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
