Take advantage of a 1-to-1 session with a professional career coach. Personalized to you, you’ll get the chance to review all of your experience and develop a plan for your future goals.
An appointment early in your internship will be perfect if you want to use the session as an opportunity to prepare for the upcoming weeks. You’ll consider what to expect during your time in Berlin and plan for the challenges that you may face. If you prefer to get settled in a bit first, you could wait a couple of weeks before scheduling your session. This way, you’ll have a chance to reflect on what you’ve learned so far and how to adjust your perspective to make the most of your remaining weeks.

Welcome to Berlin; once you arrive and get settled into your new accommodation, you’ll attend a thorough orientation. This is your chance to find out about your new firm and all that awaits you in the coming weeks. We’ll also invite you to regular community dinners, it’s a great way to relax after a long work week.
In the media sector networking is essential. Use your time in Berlin to build a network of industry connections; to help you, we’ll ensure you get an invitation to an exclusive networking event. It’s not just about asking people about job leads, you’ll want to ask questions and get advice about working in this industry, too. So put your best foot forward, if you make a great impression that could pay dividends down the road!
For your first day trip we’ll whisk you off to Potsdam; the UNESCO World Heritage site is home to lush, manicured gardens and stately palaces. You’ll meander through the city admiring sights like Sanssouci Palace or the Dutch Quarter. Make sure you leave some time to stop and relax with a coffee and pastry, the atmosphere will have you feeling like you’re in the middle of a fairy tale!
Berlin has long been a destination for world-class artwork. On your second excursion you’ll explore the city’s artistic heritage wandering through museums and galleries, taking in works by the old masters as well as the up-and-coming artists. And throughout your journey, you’ll refuel with plenty of delicious street food!
Your final trip takes you back in time to Berlin’s golden age. This 20th century ballroom, Clärchens Ballhaus, is one of the last of its kind so the experience will be one to remember. Sip cocktails as you let the amazing live music wash over you. You’ll dance the night away and make plenty of memories.
At this point you’re probably wondering about what a Journalism, Publishing & Media internship looks like so we’ve put together a look into what a typical 6-week internship in Berlin might look like.
After months of excitement, the moment is finally here and you’ve arrived in Berlin; we’re here to meet you in arrivals and whisk you off to your new new home while you’re here. Take the rest of the day to relax, get acquainted with your new accommodation or go out and start exploring the city. This is your time!
On your first full day in Berlin we’ll make sure you get a detailed orientation covering everything from your new firm to the exciting excursions we have planned for you. Ask any questions that come to mind, we want you to feel at ease and ready for all that awaits. In the evening you’ll join your fellow interns and get to know each other over some of Germany’s delicious cuisine.
Next is your first day at your new firm. Introduce yourself to your new team, you’ll be spending a lot of time with them throughout your internship and they have plenty of experience so be sure you learn everything you can from them. Everyone wants to see you succeed so be sure to get stuck in and ask questions along the way!
As you get to know what tasks and work you’ll be responsible for, you may find yourself feeling the challenge. We can help. Boost your core skills with a workshop lead by one of our professional coaches, it’ll give you the confidence you need to take into your new role.
Now, it’s time for your first day trip. Get stuck into Potsdam and let the beauty of the city wash over you!
You’ve reached the halfway point! By now, you’re confident in the tasks you’re doing and you’re exploring all that makes Berlin unique. Your colleagues are noticing your hard work, more people are reading your blog posts and social media engagement is steadily increasing. Now is a great time to have a chat with your manager about how you’re doing.
It’s been a busy few weeks so make sure you take some time to relax. Join your friends for a picnic in the park or try a new cocktail bar; you’ll want to catch up and share stories about how your internships are going.
It’s at about this point that you’ll want to start considering the future. Your network of industry connections will help you throughout your career, so be sure to strengthen that network by attending an exclusive event where you’ll have the chance to shake hands and ask questions of industry veterans. You never know where those links will take you.
Next, you’ll take a break from the hustle and bustle of your internship to explore Berlin’s art world. You’ll tour through galleries and museums, admiring some of the great masterworks and many innovative new pieces. Throughout it all, you’ll grab some of the best street food Berlin has to offer.
Your time in Berlin is winding down and as your internship nears the end you’ve been reflecting back on all you’ve done since you arrived. Attend a personalized session with our experienced career coach; together you’ll look back on all you’ve accomplished and come away with a plan for your future.
Next, you have one final trip. You’ll be transported back to the roaring 20s with a visit to Clärchens Ballhaus. Dance the night away to brilliant music and partake in delicious food and drink, it will be a night to remember!
The last event on your itinerary is to say goodbye to your friend at your farewell dinner. Exchange contact information and look back on all the great times you shared, you may be leaving Berlin but the adventure is just beginning.
In your last few days, be sure to visit any sights that you may have missed. Venture out to see the uniquely shaped Bierpinsel building or take copious notes in the David Hasselhoff museum. This time is yours, so make the most of it!

Housing partners are carefully selected and we only work with those who meet strict safety, quality, and cleanliness standards. You’ll most likely be placed in a shared apartment or student accommodation with fellow Beyond interns or young professionals and students. This is a great way to make fast friends if you’re traveling from abroad.
There will be plenty of communal living space (kitchen, bathroom, living room, etc.) and you’ll be guaranteed your own private bedroom equipped with bedding, Wi-Fi, and maybe even a desk. Your location will vary but we’ll ensure you’re placed within easy access to public transport. Depending on where you’re firm is, we’ll do our best to ensure your commute is limited to 30-60 minutes.
Having a space of your own is important, so you’ll have your own private bedroom alongside shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces, etc). All bedrooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and sometimes a desk. The location of your accommodation will vary but you’ll always be placed within easy access to public transport and depending on the location of your firm, we will try to ensure your commute is no more than 30-60 minutes.
Confirmation of your accommodation will come about 3-4 weeks before your Journalism, Publishing & Media internship is due to start. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
