Our workshop offers you the chance to develop your core skills for your time in New York – and beyond.
You’ll work with professional coaches and speakers as you undertake a range of professional skills-building exercises. A typical session will include tips on effective leadership, team skills, professional confidence, and more.
You’ll leave this session feeling ready to face the future.
Take some time out from your busy schedule to consider your career with 1-to-1 support. Reflect on what you’ve gained so far, then plan for the future; all with the insight of a professional coach.
Some interns take their appointment in the opening few days of their program. This will allow you to prepare for the weeks ahead of you; set out any expectations and goals you might have. Alternatively, you might want to wait until the mid-way point of your internship for a more balanced session. Think about what you’ve achieved so far, then discuss any improvements you can make for your remaining time in the city.
Lastly, you could even use your session as a way of capping off your internship. Use this meeting as a staging point for the next steps in your career; what new opportunities await you?

When you touch down in New York, we’ll take you through a welcome orientation to prepare you for life in the city. From your firm to social events and trips, get ready for the internship of a lifetime. You’ll also receive plenty of invites to community dinners, so make sure to head along! There’s no better way of unwinding after a busy week.
You’ll want to take advantage of your time in New York to meet as many fellow legal professionals as possible. We’ll help you build up your network of contacts by inviting you to an industry session. Meet top legal minds and make a good first impression; your next job may depend on it.
With a land area three times the size of Manhattan, Brooklyn is vast; and with this volume comes a huge selection of things to see and do. Try Williamsburg for one of the first gentrified neighborhoods in the borough; from rooftop bars to vegan restaurants, it’s one of the trendiest spots in the city. Then visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, where you’ll find 52 acres of plant life in the heart of Brooklyn!
With deep working-class and immigrant roots, the Lower East Side offers its own unique cultural experience. You’ll find some of the best nightlife, bars and restaurants in the city here; as well as plenty of live music performances. Make sure to visit the Tenement Museum to get a sense of just what it was like to live here in the 19th century.
New York City has a long association with jazz; tonight, you’re going to experience this world-class music scene. Up-and-coming musicians come from all over the world for the chance to play one of New York’s iconic jazz bars. So try a few yourself, enjoying old favorites and brand-new compositions as you listen to jazz from the best of the best. Enjoy a selection of delicious cocktails as you go!

Here’s a snapshot of life in New York, based on a typical 6-week Law internship.
That iconic Manhattan skyline has just come into view, and you realize that you’ve finally made it to New York. A city of adventure and magic awaits you; begin by meeting us at the airport, from which we’ll take you straight to your new accommodation. You can spend the rest of your first day convalescing or exploring; the choice is yours.
On your second day, you’ll meet us for your orientation. This is your chance to get up to speed with what awaits you; while you’re here, ask any questions you might have. Head out in the evening to meet your community for the first time; get to know each other over a pastrami sandwich or delicious New York pizza.
On your first day, turn up promptly and introduce yourself to your colleagues. As you work, you’ll want to draw on their experiences to improve your own industry knowledge; they’ll be keen to see you succeed, so take advantage while you can!
You’ll soon find yourself challenged by your work, so it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Working closely with professional coaches, you’ll boost your core competencies to prepare yourself for the weeks ahead.
Soon enough, it’s already time for the first of your half-day trips. Welcome to Brooklyn, a borough famous all over the world. From the delights of Coney Island to hidden hotspots and cosy cafes, discover everything this famed part of New York has to offer.
It’s week three, and you’re now feeling increasingly confident in your role. You’re on top of all the latest legal judgements; and you’ve been assisting your senior colleagues with caseloads and client interviews. You’ve even taken the lead a couple of times yourself. Take some time out with your manager and chat about your achievements so far.
It’s been a busy few weeks, and you’re looking to unwind. Accept an invite to a community dinner and meet at one of New York’s many international restaurants to catch up with your friends. Swap stories about your internships; all over some delicious food!
Immersed in New York’s law sector, you’ve probably made a few contacts already. Make some more by heading to an industry networking event; impress top law leaders and good things may be around the corner.
Next up, it’s your second tour. Journey down to the Lower East Side to experience a unique slice of New York in all its glory. From working-class immigrant history to modern gentrification, explore it all.
Almost as soon as it began, your time in New York is drawing to a close. If you haven’t already, arrange your 1-to-1 career session to look back at your almost-completed internship. What have you learned and what could you have done better? Finish off your meeting by turning your eye to the future.
Your final trip will take you into the beating heart of the New York music scene. Hop from jazz bar to jazz bar as you take in the classics; then experience something new while feasting on delicious food and drink.
Now, you’ve got one final event on the horizon: your goodbye dinner. Meet up with your friends for one final time as you reminisce over your favorite memories of your time in the city. Arrange your first big group meeting, then say goodbye.
In your remaining free time, make sure to make the most of the city as you can. Dine in a hidden bank vault underneath the city at Trinity Place Vault Bar; or head to the Comedy Cellar and take in a live comedy show.

Our housing partners in New York are carefully chosen to meet our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from abroad.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Law internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
