If you’re looking for a peaceful vibe, Amsterdam’s the place. The city is calming, from the cyclists on the roads to the beautiful tulips dotted along the streets. And this extends to Dutch business culture. The Dutch value collaboration highly; business hierarchies are relaxed and everyone’s opinion is taken into account. Business wear is often informal, and it’s not uncommon to see blouses, jeans, and trainers in summer months. But the Dutch value time and respect highly, so show up to meetings promptly and maintain strong eye contact to build trust.
With links to European cities, Amsterdam is a great place to build up a marketing portfolio. Prominent companies, from TomTom to Philips, have their home here; but the city hosts a wide array of smaller businesses too. Wherever you work, you’ll gain fantastic professional experience and leave the city with an array of new contacts.
We design our workshop to boost your development and help you hone your skills; or even learn some new ones.
Typical exercises include problem solving, leadership, and building confidence in a professional setting. You’ll develop your skill-set with the assistance of professional coaches and speakers.
And you’ll leave this workshop ready to apply your new knowledge to your internship; as well as to any future endeavours.
With the guidance of a professional coach, your 1-to-1 career session is a great way to review your progress; as well as plan ahead for the future. Here, you’ll reflect on your goals and consider any improvements you’d like to make.
You’ll be busy experiencing the life of a professional marketeer or PR guru, and your schedule will be packed. So you can pencil this session in at the best time for you.
A session in the opening days or weeks of your internship is a great way to get yourself into the right mindset for the weeks ahead. You can look back at your past successes and failures, and learn how best to apply yourself to your forthcoming program.
Alternatively, a meeting half-way through your time in Amsterdam is good for a balanced session. You can spend some time on your progress so far before finishing up with the adjustments you’d like to make going forward.
And lastly, a session in the closing days of your internship is a great way to round out your time in Amsterdam. You’ll be able to look back on what you’ve achieved and make preparations for your next steps.
We also offer tailored career advice and interview tips at any time during your program. We’ll give you the guidance you need to perfect your CV or resume; or we’ll help you craft the perfect LinkedIn profile.
You’ll have access to our portal of online tools and resources at any point in your internship.
Examples of the support we provide include:
● A personal development plan toolkit
● Online interview skills seminars
● Sessions on communication or building your brand
● And many more useful resources you can access at any time
Marketing and PR is a busy and fast-paced industry, but work hard and you’ll soon be rewarded. Here’s a few examples of typical marketing tasks you might undertake while in Amsterdam:
● Update website and social media, including product descriptions and images
● Deal with enquiries and assist with press events
● Work to research briefs and collate any findings
● Monitor and pick out news trends for comment or engagement
● Create branding materials for marketing, operations and internal communications
With the aid of your Beyond Community, Amsterdam will soon feel like your new home.

Additionally, Amsterdam is home to a range of delicious international dishes, so make sure to tuck in.
Alongside you as you navigate Amsterdam will be your Beyond Community. This fantastic support network will have your back every step of the way; from professional tips to advice on the best hotspots in the city, they’ll be there for you.

Iconic across the world, it’s time to experience the canals of Amsterdam. Discover the Venice of the North as you cruise alongside beautiful buildings and picturesque natural sights. Enjoy a whole host of delicious food and drink as you go!
While the Netherlands doesn’t have too much in the way of its own culinary culture, you’ll find a fantastic array of international cuisine in Amsterdam. Move from street market to street market, taking it all in and trying everything. From Chinese sweet and sour pork to Argentinian dough empanadas!
Take a trip back in time with a visit to the Zaanse Schans. Marvel at the sight of historic windmills, then try some delicious freshly-made goods; including cookies and cheese! This is a great way of taking a step back from city life and basking in the glorious heritage of the Netherlands.
Here’s a look at what might await you on a typical 6-week Marketing, Advertising, & PR internship in Amsterdam.
After months of preparation and anticipation, you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. Touch down at the airport and take in those first breaths of a new city; then meet us in arrivals and allow us to whisk you to your new home.
Your first day is yours to spend as you wish; some interns convalesce in their accommodation, others head out the door and start exploring. On day two, join us as we run you through everything that awaits you on your program. Afterwards, you’ll meet up with your Beyond Community for the first time. Many interns make friends for life, and this is where it all starts.
Head over to the office on your first day of work and make a good impression on your colleagues. Afterwards, you might want to unwind at a community dinner; try something international as you meet up with your new friends. In the evening, why not cycle home?
As you dive into the busy world of marketing and PR, you’ll be faced with new and exciting challenges. To assist you as you get your skills up to scratch, you might want to take our workshop. Our exercises will boost your skills and development; you’ll leave ready to apply yourself anew to your internship.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip. Prepare to explore the criss-crossing waterways of Amsterdam as you experience the city from a unique perspective. You’ll feel utterly relaxed as you float peacefully along.
As the weeks progress, you’re adapting well to your internship. You’re now a dab hand at producing promotional material at short notice; and you’ve attended plenty of client meetings, working out exactly what’s needed and when. So now’s a good time to head to a trendy coffee shop with your manager and discuss how you’re doing.
You’ll likely have made plenty of professional contacts already; but to help, we’ll be hard at work searching for the best industry events for you. We’ll send out an invite, so head along and start networking with top marketing and advertising executives. Make the right connection and it might pay off!
It’s already time for your second trip – a market tour! Experience local Dutch culture through their street markets and stalls; sample an array of international cuisine and learn some history as you go. Make sure to stop off at the Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site!
Your internship is drawing to a close, and you’ve been looking back on what you’ve gained. Not just fantastic professional marketing experience; but a total cultural immersion and life-long friends and contacts too. Not bad for six weeks! If you haven’t already, organize your 1-to-1 career coaching session for a final reflection on your internship. You can also use this time to plan your next steps.
Your third and final trip is an excursion to Zaanse Schans. Discover iconic windmills and fascinating museums as you uncover this unmissable slice of Dutch heritage. Grab pastries or sample some freshly made cheese before you go!
Before you know it, it’s time for your farewell dinner. Put on your best clothes and get ready for an unforgettable night. It’ll be emotional as you swap your favorite stories of your time in Amsterdam; pledge to stay in touch and then say goodbye.
Before you’re due to fly out, make sure you’ve experienced as much of Amsterdam as possible. Watch the world go by in the beautiful Vondelpark; or head to the Rijksmuseum to discover the artistic history of the Netherlands.
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.

We carefully select our housing partners in Amsterdam to meet our rigorous safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals. It’s a great way to build your own community, especially if you’re traveling from overseas.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed somewhere with access to public transport. Depending on where your firm is, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Marketing, Advertising, & PR internship begins. This is due to the demand for short term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
