You’ll probably be eager to learn just what it’s like to intern in Barcelona. So here’s a snapshot of a typical 6-week Marketing, Advertising & PR internship.
After months of careful planning – and more than a bit of excitement – you’ve made it. Welcome to Barcelona. Even stepping off the plane, you can feel how different this city is – and there’s so much to uncover. To begin with, meet us in arrivals and we’ll take you straight on to your accommodation.
How you spend the rest of your first day is up to you. Some like to unwind in their room after a long flight; others make the most of their time in Barcelona by heading out and beginning their adventure. Either way, you’ll join us on day two for your comprehensive orientation. As we familiarize you with your internship, you can ask any questions you might have about the weeks ahead. That evening, why not head out to the first of many community dinners as your new friends welcome you to Barcelona? Get to know each other, all over some authentic Spanish food.
Turn up promptly on your first day and make a good first impression on your colleagues. Get an overview of the work you’ll be doing, then dive in. Observe your co-workers closely as you learn from the best; it’s a great opportunity to soak up some professional insight.
But you’ll soon find yourself challenged by your workload – especially if you haven’t worked in marketing before. So take an early skills workshop to bolster your core competencies for the weeks ahead. Work with coaches and speakers as you sharpen your skills; emerge from this session ready for your coming program.
Soon enough, it’s time for your first trip. Head out to Girona to discover a medieval city of preserved culture and history. Take in some famous sites – including a TV filming location or two – as you go!
It’s week three, and you’re getting into the swing of things. You’ve been supporting senior colleagues in client interviews, determining their needs and whether your firm can meet them. Not to mention, your analytical skills are growing as you consider the strengths and weaknesses of rival marketing campaigns. So take some time out with your manager to review your progress so far.
After a hectic few weeks, you’re looking to relax. There’s no better way than a community dinner, so meet up with your friends and see how they’re getting on. Try one of Barcelona’s many international dishes as you bask in the cool evening air; then walk home along the beach.
Networking is a key part of marketing, and you’ve probably picked up a few contacts of your own already. Head out to a professional networking event to pick up some more; chat with marketing executives and see what makes them tick. Then swap contact details and see what comes of it.
Your second trip will take you on a paella-making masterclass. Work closely with a master chef to pick up all the secrets to this delicious dish. You’ll never forget what you learn here.
As your internship draws to a close, you’ve pencilled in your 1-to-1 career session to consider what you’ve gained here. With professional insight, reflect on your achievements and failures; then think about the future, setting out the next steps you need to take to achieve your dream job.
Your final trip is a deep-dive into the heart of Barcelona. You’ve got to know the city pretty well by now; so keep on the lookout for hidden hotspots and historical treasures as you explore the city’s architecture. Then snack on any Spanish food left to try as you sample every tapas bar in sight.
You’ve got one final meeting on the agenda; so put on your best clothes and head out to your farewell meal. Reminisce about your favorite memories with your friends, then say goodbye. And in your final days before you’re due to fly out, make the most of Barcelona. Take a stroll through the impressive Gothic Quarter of the Old City; or immerse yourself in greenery in the beautiful Umbracle botanical garden.
