“What I loved about Beyond Academy and why I choose them is because they are more flexible and more individually tailored to what each person is looking for, rather than just a generalised experience. My group and the entire Beyond community has been really welcoming. I am so lucky to be able to have this experience with people that are similar, as in we are all looking to grow personally, grow professionally and also just enjoy every moment. Everyone here has left behind the familiar and has come to the unfamiliar which can be scary, but when you have a community as good as this, it’s not scary at all.”

Your Amsterdam program
at a glance

Here’s a glimpse of what it’s like to undertake a typical 6-week Property & Real Estate internship.

Intern in Amsterdam after just arriving for our internship

Weeks 1 & 2

After months of planning, you’ve finally made it to Amsterdam. There’s so much to see and do here; but first, meet us in arrivals and we’ll whisk you to your new home.

Spend your first day unwinding. For some, that’s laying low in your room or a nearby café; for others, it’s hopping on a bike and exploring the city. The choice is yours. On day two, you’ll join us for your orientation. We’ll get you up to speed with everything that awaits you in Amsterdam; including what you can expect from your work. Afterwards, head out and meet your friends. This is a great way of settling into the city.

Turn up nice and early on your first day of work. The Dutch are very particular about time, so your colleagues will appreciate it. Discover your day-to-day tasks and responsibilities, then get to work! Remember to draw upon the knowledge and experience of your co-workers and manager throughout your internship; you’re here to learn, after all.

You’ll soon find yourself challenged by your busy workload, so why not take an early skills workshop? With the guidance of coaches and speakers, undertake exercises in key core competencies; leave this session feeling reinvigorated and ready to take on the world!

Before you know it, it’s already time for your first trip. Get to know the Venice of the North via its best feature – its canals! Cruise along as you explore the city, and try some tasty food as you go!

Office building of interns in Amsterdam

Weeks 3 & 4

As the weeks go on, you’re feeling increasingly comfortable in your role. You’ve developed a sound knowledge of the Dutch property market; and you’re skilled at compiling detailed analytical reports, complete with recommendations for your firm. So take some time out with your manager to discuss your progress.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, so why not take a break with your friends at a community dinner? Chat about your progress as you relax the night away. If your first dinner was traditionally Dutch, you might want to branch out and try an international dish.

With English widely spoken in Amsterdam, you’ll be familiar with a few of your fellow real estate professionals already. But to help you develop your own burgeoning network, we’ll send out an invite to a top industry networking event. Impress leaders in your sector and good things may come of it!

Next, it’s time for your second trip. Take a market tour of Amsterdam to soak up a bit of local history and culture. Then sample a delicious array of street food and international cuisines.

Weeks 5 & 6

Your internship is nearing its end, and you’ve booked in your 1-to-1 career session to review what you’ve achieved here. From world-class professional experience to a total cultural immersion, you’ve had a fantastic time and gained so much. Cap off your session by planning the steps you’d like to take after leaving Amsterdam.

For your final trip, get ready for a journey out to Zaanse Schans. In this preserved 18th-century village you’ll find windmills, bakeries, and museums; soak up the atmosphere before trying all the fresh food on offer, from chocolate to cheese! Then grab a few souvenirs before leaving.

And before you go, it’s time for your farewell dinner. Put on your best clothes as you meet up with your community for one last time. This is a nice way of finishing things off; reminisce about your favorite memories of Amsterdam, then say goodbye. And make sure you’ve made the most of Amsterdam before you leave. Use your remaining free time to indulge in a cinematic experience at the EYE Film Institute; or head to the Jordaan district to discover some independent art galleries and atmospheric bars!
