“What I loved about Beyond Academy and why I choose them is because they are more flexible and more individually tailored to what each person is looking for, rather than just a generalised experience. My group and the entire Beyond community has been really welcoming. I am so lucky to be able to have this experience with people that are similar, as in we are all looking to grow personally, grow professionally and also just enjoy every moment. Everyone here has left behind the familiar and has come to the unfamiliar which can be scary, but when you have a community as good as this, it’s not scary at all.”

Weeks 1 & 2

After months of excitement, you’ve finally made it: welcome to Amsterdam. You’ll begin soaking up the city’s laid-back atmosphere as soon as you step off the plane, and you can’t wait to get started; but first, meet us in arrivals and allow us to take you to your new home.

Spend your first day relaxing. You could kick back in your room or a nearby café; or you might want to hop on a bike and head into the heart of the city. On day two you’ll join us for your comprehensive orientation, where we’ll familiarize you with everything you’ll face on your program. That evening, you’ll meet your new friends at your first community dinner. Settle into Amsterdam life as you get to know each other over some delicious food.

On your first day of work, turn up promptly to impress your colleagues. You’ll soon be in the thick of things, so get to know your office and your co-workers, then get to work! Make sure to treat this as a learning experience. Your colleagues and manager will know all the tricks of the trade, so take advantage of their knowledge.

With a busy and challenging workload facing you, it’s a good idea to take an early skills workshop. Work with coaches and speakers to train your core competencies; you’ll leave feeling re-energized and ready to take on everything your internship could throw at you.

Before you know it, it’s time for your first trip. Get to know Amsterdam through its most iconic feature – its canals! Relax as you take in the city; and sample some delicious food as you do it.

Weeks 3 & 4

By now, you’re feeling comfortable in your position. You’re a master at putting together regular briefing documents for your colleagues, summarizing recent developments in your field and how best to take advantage of them. And you’ve developed your familiarity with your firm’s own particular coding style, unravelling streams of data as you work to make things more accessible. So now’s a good time to take stock of your progress with your manager.

After a busy couple of weeks, you’ll want to unwind; so take some time out your friends at a community dinner. Branch out and try an international restaurant or takeaway, then chat the night away!

A few weeks in, you’ll already be familiar with a few of your fellow tech professionals. To help you build your network of contacts, we’ll send out an invite to a top industry networking event. Head along and get to know your sector; your next job may be just around the corner!
