“What I loved about Beyond Academy and why I choose them is because they are more flexible and more individually tailored to what each person is looking for, rather than just a generalised experience. My group and the entire Beyond community has been really welcoming. I am so lucky to be able to have this experience with people that are similar, as in we are all looking to grow personally, grow professionally and also just enjoy every moment. Everyone here has left behind the familiar and has come to the unfamiliar which can be scary, but when you have a community as good as this, it’s not scary at all.”

A Professional Technology & Software Engineering Internship

With start dates every month, and lasting anywhere between one and six months in length, choose the right internship for you.

A global hotspot for tech investment, New York is thriving. In 2019, Forbes described New York as the world’s best city to build a tech company, outranking even San Francisco; and New York is a key investor in a drive to encourage more female start-up founders. This commitment to diversity means there’s opportunities aplenty, whoever you are or wherever you come from. In New York you’ll gain a fantastic array of experience; and you’ll leave the city ready to apply what you’ve learned to your future career in tech.

Home to an array of nationalities and languages, there’s always new experiences to be had in New York. Meet new people and try new things!

You’ll leave this session ready to apply what you’ve learned to your internship – and beyond.

Career Coaching & Support

While in New York, you’ll have the chance to undertake a 1-to-1 career session with a qualified coach. This is your space to look at your career with a critical eye; consider the good and the bad as you reflect on your past and plan for the future.

You could take your appointment in the opening days of your internship; this is a good way of preparing yourself for the challenging weeks ahead. Or split your focus with a mid-term session; think about how far you’ve come, then set out any improvements you could make in your final weeks.

And if you’d prefer, you can use your session as a way of rounding your internship off. Look back at a completed internship as you discuss your achievements. Then think about what opportunities await you after leaving New York, and how best to take advantage of them.

You’ll also have access to tailored career advice and interview tips throughout your internship. Whether it’s CV or resume tips or advice on polishing a professional portfolio, we’ve got you covered.

Online Tools & Resources

Access our online portal of tools and resources to boost your employability and development.

Here are just some examples of the support we provide:

Practical Technology & Software Engineering Experience

– Research news and breakthroughs in modern technology eg. AI or robotics
– Create, maintain and improve automated test scripts
– Ensure public-facing products remain available, and diagnose and solve issues as they arise
– Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand expectations and plan accordingly
– Collaborate with the development team to spec, design and build new features end-to-end

Then try the Brooklyn Museum, home to eclectic exhibitions and art collections. Before you leave, make sure you take in the fascinating history of transport at the New York Transit Museum.

Lower East Side

Once, LES was packed full of European immigrants living side-by-side in cramped tenement housing. Today, it’s a thriving urban neighborhood with a reputation for a lively nightlife, full of restaurants, bars, and music venues. Enjoy eating and drinking in one of New York’s best hotspots; or immerse yourself in the city’s rich history of diversity and immigration through the Tenement Museum and Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space.

Jazz Night

It’s rare today for Manhattan to produce its own world-class jazz artists; but you can be sure that a musician can never be truly world-class unless they’ve played the iconic Manhattan circuit. Enjoy live music across the famed clubs of New York as you enjoy a few classics and some brand-new compositions. Whether you see the rising stars or some old hands, it’s sure to be an evening of culture and fun.

Meet the New York Community team
