As part of the Beyond Community, Tokyo will soon feel like your second home.
You’ll likely be familiar with Tokyo from the moment you step foot in the city. Tokyo – and perceptions of Tokyo – permeate pop culture across the world. So much of it will be recogniszble to you: high-level tech innovation, futuristic buildings, and the wacky and wonderful – from capsule hotels to animal cafés. But dig a little deeper and you’ll discover a city and people utterly in touch with their heritage. From beautiful and carefully cultivated gardens to traditional sumo wrestling; the Japanese blend old and new in a totally unique way.
The people of Tokyo will always be polite and ready to help if you need it. Even if there’s the occasional language gap, you’ll get by on sheer enthusiasm. And alongside you every step of the way will be your Beyond Community. Between them, you’ll have all the support you need.

Use this international experience to your advantage by gathering as many industry contacts as you can. We’ll send you regular invitations to networking events, so head along and introduce yourself to top tech leaders!
Discover the world-famous monolith of Mount Fuji. Head up the mountain for an unmissable view; including, on a clear day, the incredible sight of Tokyo. Otherwise, base yourself at a station lower down the mountain and take in the stunning vistas, including nearby beautiful lakes.
To the Japanese, attention to detail is everything. Learn all about the intricate process of traditional Japanese tea-making, all while donning a traditional kimono!
Visit a delightful interactive museum that showcases modern Japanese digital art technology at its finest!
Throughout the program, your Tokyo Community Coordinators will be by your side, providing friendly support, and lots of fun and memorable experiences.
We’ve put together a guide on just what it’s like to intern in Tokyo, based on a typical 6-week Technology internship.
After months of anticipation, you’ve finally made it to Tokyo. Savor the experience of a brand-new country as you arrive at the airport. Meet us in arrivals and we’ll whisk you straight to your new home.
Some interns will use their first day to sleep off the jet lag in the comfort of their accommodation. Whereas others will head straight out the door and start exploring Tokyo. Whatever your preference, join us on day two for your comprehensive orientation. Afterwards, meet your Beyond Community. Many of our interns make friends for life while interning, and this is where it starts!
On your first day of work, turn up early to your office to make a good first impression on your colleagues. After a busy first day, you might want to head to a community dinner to unwind. Swap stories with your new friends over some delicious Japanese food.
Interning in Tokyo will be a new experience, and you’ll be faced with plenty of unique challenges as you work. Many interns take an early skills workshop to prepare themselves for the coming weeks. Hone your existing skills and learn some new ones as you undertake exercises in an array of competencies. You’ll leave excited to apply your newfound knowledge to your internship.
Before you know it, it’s time for your first trip. Mount Fuji awaits; so head up the mountain to discover some extraordinary views. Then center yourself by ancient Shinto shrines and peaceful lakes.
As the weeks progress, you’re becoming more and more comfortable balancing your responsibilities and tasks. From interviewing clients to determine their specific end-user needs; to compiling regular qualitative and quantitative reports for your team. So head out to a nearby café with your manager and discuss how your internship has unfolded so far.
A dynamic and globally connected city, you’ll constantly be meeting new people in Tokyo. To enhance your burgeoning network of contacts, head along to regular industry networking events. Add some names to your list as you impress top tech leaders.
Enjoy a mid-week catch up with your Beyond community at a social event to unwind. Enjoy an Umeshu on the rocks (Japanese plum liquor) as you socialize. Or if you don’t partake in alcohol enjoy a delicious non-alcoholic yuzu cocktail or a refreshing melon soda.
Next, it’s time for your second event. You’ll learn the secrets of traditional Japanese tea-making, while wearing the traditional kimono!
Your time in Tokyo is drawing to a close, and you’re in a reflective mood. Thinking back on your internship, you realize you’ve gained outstanding work experience, amazing friends and contacts, and a cultural immersion like no other. It’s been six weeks well spent.
If you haven’t done so already, use your one-to-one session to look back critically on your successes and failures; then plan out your next steps.
To conclude your schedule of trips, take a journey to the neon-lit Shinjuku. Experience this extraordinary nightlife scene as you indulge in delicious food and drink, music, karaoke and dance. Shinjuku is also known as the ‘Sleepless City’ so get ready for a fun evening packed with entertainment.
Before you leave Tokyo, it’s time for your final scheduled event: a farewell dinner. Swap contact details with your Beyond Community as you pledge to stay in touch; congratulate each other on a job well done, then say goodbye. In your remaining days, blitz around the city and take in as much as possible. Take a quite literal walk down Memory Lane, or get a birds-eye view of the busy Shibuya Crossing from the nearby Starbucks building. Make the most of this amazing city before you leave and you won’t regret it.
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.

Our Tokyo housing partners are chosen to meet to our stringent safety, quality and cleanliness standards. The housing we offer is mainly student accommodation or shared apartments. So your roommates will be fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals; it’s a great way to build a local community.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, bathroom, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed close to public transport. Depending on the location of your firm, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Technology & Software Engineering internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
