It’s an amazing culture – one that’s bursting with food, entertainment, theater, and music – and you’ll always find something new to explore. Tokyo is also a tourist haven – with a low crime rate, it’s one of the safest cities in the world.
You’ll begin to feel at home in Tokyo in no time with the help of your community. Explore this fascinating city alongside your Beyond community and make memories that will last a lifetime. Plus, our Community Team will always be on hand to provide help and support. Looking for the best beauty spot in the city? Have questions about an upcoming tour? They’ll have the answer.

You’ll receive regular invitations to Tokyo-based professional networking opportunities. Build up a prestigious array of international contacts, and have fun doing it!
Journey to the breath-taking Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan. On a clear day you’ll get a stunning view of Tokyo. Climb or walk Fuji-san (that’s what the locals call Mt. Fuji) to take in this amazing, iconic natural landmark. You’ll also be able to pay a visit to Kawaguchiko Lake, an astonishingly beautiful body of water.
To the Japanese, attention to detail is everything. Learn all about the intricate process of traditional Japanese tea-making, all while donning a traditional kimono!
Visit a delightful interactive museum that showcases modern Japanese digital art technology at its finest!
Throughout the program, your Tokyo Community Coordinators will be by your side, providing friendly support, and lots of fun and memorable experiences.
Discover what awaits you – here’s a snapshot of a typical 6-week Tokyo-based Film internship.
As you take in that inimitable skyline, you know that after a long wait you’ve finally made it: Tokyo.
We’ll meet you at the airport – and take you straight to your new accommodation. This’ll be your home for the next few weeks! Take your first day to explore your local neighborhood and get to know your roommates. Or, if you’ve had a long flight, relax and try to sleep off the jet lag!
On day two, it’s time for your comprehensive orientation. We’ll familiarize you with everything that awaits you during your program; from the city itself to trips and social events. Next up it’s time to meet your new friends. Chat with your fellow interns over some delicious Japanese food – this will be your community for the next six weeks.
You’ll want to dive headfirst into your internship, so meet your manager and colleagues and get stuck in. After your packed first day, unwind at a Community Dinner. Try some sushi, or tempura – then use Tokyo’s highly advanced public transport system to get home.
Early on in your internship might be a good time to take your skills workshop. Here you’ll hone your existing skills and develop some new ones too. This’ll stand you in good stead for the rest of your internship – apply what you’ve learned and impress your new colleagues!
Then prepare for your first day trip – Mount Fuji. Take in the stunning views of Tokyo from Mt. Fuji and the surrounding areas. There’s more to this area than its iconic mountain, so relax at Lake Kawaguchi and enjoy its serene atmosphere and natural beauty. Mount Fuji will be a highlight of your time in Japan – it is not to be missed!
By now, you’ve settled in quickly to your busy Film internship. Your filming and editing skills are coming along nicely, and you really feel like you’ve got a sense for this industry. So now’s a good time to head out with your manager to review your progress so far.
Meanwhile, our local Tokyo team will be hard at work searching for the latest professional networking events. You’ll receive regular invitations to events like these – so keep an eye out for your invite and make the most of it. After a long day at work, followed by a networking event, relax at home with your roommates. Or if you’ve got the energy, why not head to Odaiba. Here you’ll see the Rainbow Bridge lit up at night for a great view of Tokyo.
Next, it’s time for your second event. You’ll learn the secrets of traditional Japanese tea-making, while wearing the traditional kimono!
Your time in Tokyo is already drawing to a close. You’ve become fully immersed in the entertainment industry, as well as Japan’s unique business culture. It’s been an amazing experience – from professional and demonstrable Film experience to the soft skills you’ve developed. Though you won’t want your Film internship to go, you’ll leave Tokyo ready to embark on your dream career.
You’re sure to have discovered something new about yourself during this transformative experience. So it’s a great time to look back over your time in Tokyo and schedule your 1-to-1 coaching session.
After witnessing iconic beauty spots, and sampling Japan’s amazing food scene, you’re ready for your final trip. It’s time to visit Tokyo’s 24/7 district, Shinjuku. Take in the neon-soaked area of Tokyo before you say goodbye. Try lots of food and drink, hop from bar to bar, then belt out your favorite songs in a private karaoke room!
Before you know it, it’s time to say goodbye to Tokyo. Gather with your fellow interns for your farewell dinner. You’re now so immersed in Japanese culture that you might even want to swap KitKat wrappers as a good luck gift like Japanese students do before exams! It’s now your last chance to fit in as much as you can. Whether that’s one last bite to eat in a Michelin-starred restaurant (there are 226 in Tokyo alone). Or a visit to the nearby traditional Shimokitazawa farming village, you won’t regret it.
We collaborate with a diverse array of companies, spanning from boutique PR firms to multinational advisory firms. Please note that these examples are purely for reference. The specific company you’ll be associated with will be determined by a wide range of criteria.

We carefully select our housing partners in Tokyo, ensuring they meet our rigorous safety, quality and cleanliness standards. We offer mainly student accommodation or shared apartments for housing. You’ll be living with fellow Beyond Interns, students and other young professionals; it’s a great way to make friends quickly, especially if you’re travelling in from overseas.
You’ll have your own private bedroom with shared communal spaces (kitchen, living spaces etc). All rooms come with bedding, Wi-Fi, and often have a desk. Locations will vary but you’ll always be placed close to public transport. Depending on the location of your firm, we try to ensure your commute time is no more than 30-60 minutes.
We’ll confirm your exact accommodation and location around 3-4 weeks before your Television, Theater, Film & Music internship begins. This is due to the demand for short-term accommodation and ever-changing availability.
